Heard a lot of flack about pay day 2 being essentially riddled with essential microtransactions. Can an experienced player elaborate on whether tier 2 is necessary to progress through the game at a reasonable rate?

Also the John wick vr game sounds amazing.

I wonder if the JW vr game can capture the feel of the close quarter combat properly. Might need a bit of room to play this properly without falling over furniture or slamming against a wall.

Also don't want to see dogs bludgeoned to death in VR either… just sayin.

    • I've never played Payday 1 or 2 but reading the Steam reviews it was inundated with negative comments about the micro transactions.

But…. John Wick so I bought it.

I've never wanted a VR unit so bad in my life, unfortunately my budget will not allow me to live out all my John Wick fantasies. I have to settle for Tier 2 Humble Bundle.

      • Not sure whether to get just Tier 1 or Tier 2. Hopefully someone in the know replies to ChillBro's Q.

It's nice that we get the base game and then the GOTY ed too in Tier 2… means I can gift the base game to my bro. But then if he doesn't have certain content that's required for the two of us to play together, we're kinda screwed anyway… I'd be better off getting two copies of Tier 1 at that point and gifting the other one to my bro.

Payday 2 doesn't require both players to have the heist packs brought. Only the person hosting is required to have it.

        • @OverburdenedWarrior: Cheers mate. Guess I'll be getting all the DLC and GOTY package and my bro will just get the base game.

I've played for quite a while. At least 300 hours but haven't played in some time now. Maybe a year or more?
I'm not exactly sure what the micro transactions are (I think they're relating to the new crafting that the devs have introduced similar to loot in most games. E.g. You get a vault, pay a small fee to open it and get something nice for your weapons) but this game has a crap ton of DLC. Feels like it's almost impossible to keep up with everything and with the added increased difficulty levels, it feels like you need DLC to complete them. Although the game's meant to be balanced, it's pretty clear that DLC has the most powerful weapons.

To speak about the game itself, it's a great experience with friends. Without friends, it can be a little more difficult especially regarding communication which you'll need especially if you're attempting the challenging stealth aspects. Eventually the stealth becomes easier (due to experience and learning the way the game works) unless you place deficits on yourself to challenge yourself further which is very fun. The shooting is shooting so not much more can be said.

P.s. game has a few bug that never really get ironed out, but 99.9% of the time nothing game breaking. Sometimes glitches can happen that won't let you progress to the next stage which can be extremely frustrating

      Quick rating: 4/5 (with friends)

      • Thanks for the info mate.

I might have to have a think about whether Tier 1 is good enough. Will have to see what the extra DLCs with the GOTY edition are… Tier 1 already looks to have a good selection of DLCs between extra missions, weapons and masks. Tier 2 DLCs outside of the GOTY are all masks.

I got into PayDay 2 pretty late, only starting last year and finishing up around Xmas. Clocked 140+ hours of gameplay so far, and happy to share my thoughts.

First off, microtransactions. There was a massive debacle back at 2015 because they introduced microtransactions when the bigwigs (Producer and Lead Designer) promised that they would never do that back in 2013.

These microtransactions were charged on two things: 'Safes' and 'Drills'. After a player finishes each game session, there is a very rare chance that either a 'safe' or a 'drill' will drop. Having both will allow you to open the safe and get cosmetic skins for your guns. They have since done away with any of these microtransactions in 2016:

All in all, I highly recommend it. My steam friends list has doubled because of this game and I've had the chance to meet some great people both within AU and around the globe. It's by far one of the best Steam communities I've had the chance to join.

Not pay to win, and don't need dlc. But really the game is a little dated, and the most fun I had was to treat it as a wave based action shooter, rather than a stealth game.

If you wanna head shot hoards of cops in co-op, this is your beast.

      Otherwise, it's a little grindey.

Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S04HEoIzVIw&index=4&list=PLR… before giving money to those greedy liars.

    • now the song is all I will hear when playing this game, lol.

Too much controversial regarding the microtransaction stuff. They started off without microtransaction but not earning enough to fund any development, then comes the epic ultra microtransaction patch with the crimefest back in 2015.

They got hit so hard and they finally remove the microtransactions last year.

They're literally beating a dead horse. The game itself is 4 years old and instead of reworking the game itself, they've been pumping out dlc like there's no tomorrow.

I quit after a few weeks because there'd be a new 3gb update every few days. There's more dlc than the actual game tbh to the point where you can't play the game without it.

Tho i did end up making a tonne of money flipping the rare Completely Overkill dlc.

        • True. They just trying to cash in hard. Milking the fans.

    • Good thing we can contribute all the proceeds towards charity!

  • TBH I never had trouble playing the game with the microtransactions, sure there's always the weapons and accessories being really slowly trickled down on you unless you pay but I didn't feel like the missions were affected. Rather grinding your level high enough far outweighed the benefits of new weapons.

I guess some people get OCD about collecting everything so they just spit the dummy at the sight of DLC.

Man, (profanity) those guys. Overkill, not Humble Bundle. Greediest, dodgiest bastards and shithouse game. Awesome concept completely ruined.

    • Enjoying everything except the Huge amount of bugs and glitches.

Just got caught during a stealth mission and I'm looking at a summary screen - no but to get out of this screen, no restart, nothing. Just staring at a screen…….

  • So to play as John Wick you need to join the Steam Community group, not just included in humble bundle dlc ?

    Is that correct ?
