Where To Buy Cleaning Products?

Hi,

Just moved into a new home, we have more wooden floors now than carpet. I'm trying to find out what to buy, and where to buy it from to assist in cleaning the floor.

Can anyone assist? There seems to be so many gimmicks, and I dont want to fall for any of them!

Thanks OzB!

Paul

Try googling natural alternatives, eg vinegar/baking soda concoctions. Cheaper and better for you and your family.

If you find its not effective, plenty of other uses for the ingredients.

Which you will … I don't even think it's a surfactant is it?

  • Oh and avoid those silly brooms where you basically attach a wet wipe onto it… So stupid and expensive.

  • Go to website that lists cleaning products and implements for wooden floors available in Australia, and have a good read.
You must identify the materials and the process of the installation to understand more detailed specifics.

Ask the previous owner, they are the experts, or if NEW, ask the builder, or if renting ask the previous tenant and or the agent.

Then if still confused, go to a store eg Bunnings and have a chat with the sales guys/gals. Many are ex tradies and have excellent knowledge.

Also, go see local wooden floor installers and ask for their advise, they should give you the good goss.

If all that fails, have a cleaning team come visit your home, identify out of the many - your particular flooring(because we have no idea what you have), and advise on what they do/don't use for what reasons with which products, and get a quote.

Then you will know all, and be able to make an informed decision on doing it yourself.

  • Go to Bunnings and get some advice from them :)

May as well just ask random people on the internet IME.

  • My whole house has polished hardword floors. I vacuum and then every couple of weeks use a sponge mop with stuff from the supermarket called "wooden floor cleaner" or something - a capful into a bucket of warm water.
    Works a treat

  • Sweep/ vacuum and then a mop. my mum doesnt believe in buying mops, so she uses a damp cloth and wipes it by hand >_> very clean though :)

  • Firstly check if the floor is real wood or laminate.
The chumps in Bunnings, yeah nah. Give 'em a miss.
I'd go into a flooring shop & ask them once you know your flooring material. You need a different cleaner depending if laminate or not, but certainly vacuuming is the first line of attack.

  • We also just moved to a place with (laminated) wooden floors. Found this stuff to be good. Also recommend the $45 K-Mart steam mop

  • wooden floors

like Youfah Mizzum said. timber or laminate. the timber floors should have been sealed by the installer and the laminate are engineered. they should both be able to withstand water and most domestic/commercial cleaning solutions.

when it comes down to cleaning, then it's all the same. buy a handle and microfibre mop head from a hardware store or ebay. any 1" handle will do. the white oates microfibre mop heads http://www.cleaningshop.com.au/contents/media/l_mh-mf-02_gro… are very good. they will leave the floor almost dry after one pass. this reduces drying time and streaks. or buy a gala http://www.cleaningshop.com.au/contents/media/l_microfibre-m… if you can't find oates. these mops must be used with a contractor mop bucket http://www.cleaningshop.com.au/contents/media/l_iw-005_oates….

use diluted cleaning disinfectant or eucalyptus oil with hot water if you have small infants that are still crawling. cleaning disinfectant for food, oil and sauce. eucalyptus oil for non-food.

don't buy cotton material mop head. they retain to much water after wringing.

    that's about it.

btw. i'm not endorsing the shop. they just happen to have the best images on google.
