Old Grace Brothers Gift Vouchers No Expiration

Hi everyone,

My grandmother recently passed away at the ripe old age of 102. Whilst cleaning out her garage I found a stack of old grace brothers gift vouchers. Probably in excess of $2000 worth at least. Mostly from the early 90s. There's no expiration date on the vouchers. Has anyone had any luck with cashing these bad boys in with Myer or have any advice?

    If they are in good condition, I wonder if they would have increased in value in terms of being a collectors item?

      Perhaps one day. My wife's great-great-great-great grandfather was a Sydney brewer. In 1813 he called in his promissory notes 7 months before he died. In 2013 his promissory note no. 66 for the sum of 1 shilling was on sale for $19,500. In grams per dollar, possibly the most expensive item in Australia?

    I hope this has a happy ending.

      Yep, please update when you've been informed. Like others here I think your chances are slim. Its been +12 years since they were rebranded as Myer stores and then there was Coles-Myer, then there was a divestment by GJ Coles, a private equity purchase and a private firm who have since taken control of Myer. I'll cross my fingers for you.

  • I would've thought your chances of redeeming are close to zero. Grace Bros/Myer have gone through several ownership changes since Grace Brothers last had their name on a storefront.

    Some of the younger staff manning the counters probably wouldn't have heard of Grace Bros either and would probably call security lol

    I would think you couldn't, but I guess there's nothing to lose to give it a go.

      I just went into Myer and spoke with a young fella about it. He was able to approve it and said I could spend it on anything in store as they had no expiration date. Winning!! Thanks for all of your advice and well wishes guys.

        you're kidding! That's awesome!

      • Excellent news. What was/is the total value if you don't mind the curiosity?

        • I have close to $500 worth but I have the rest back at home. Now I need to find something I want at Myer.

          @Nikovegna: New gift cards? :p

        • i checked and I can't purchase gift cards with the vouchers. However I might see if I can add some of my own money to buy extra gift cards with it. Eg $475 vouchers buying $500 gift cards

          @Nikovegna: I didn't think you were allowed to either, but apparently at Coles it just depends on if the staff member follows procedure or just use self service checkout (according to another recent thread). Pretty crazy stuff…

          @Nikovegna: Enjoy!
