  • Do people keep nappies for awhile?

We've got a bub on the way coming in end of May, should I stock up now? lol

    • I don't see any issue in stocking up now and using it after 6 months. Just keep it in original packing.

    • +1

while you should and can….you probably shouldnt unless you are pretty sure your bubz would prefer this brand over other brands

with our newborn i think we went thru around 8 different brands before settling with one

      • +1

8 different brand!?!? wow what was the issue? was it leakage, rash or… ??

        • +1

          just wanted to try them
we were given merries and goon to try….they were ok…no leakage or rash …the price per nappy is pretty damn expensive and newborns being as they are chew thru nappies like no tomorrow.

aldi we tried because of we say many people saying its value for money
bubz did not like it one bit, rash formed. had to slab on the sudo
i just didnt like the smell of the nappy itself

the woolies ones we got few at baby show to try it
there was redness after one so that was off the list

huggies was the one we used from hospital and pre bought 3 boxes then say them on sale for 24 bucks and got another 3

then we say babylove on sale at toys r us for 20 bucks a box and we tried those and bubz liked them
less redness and no leakage for the most part…still had the poo explosions or the one where the nappy was just too full (bubz was a good sleeper..sleeping 12+ hours which is not normal but we weren't complaining)

there was some leakage on some of the ones
ended up using babylove cosyfit….after i finished the huggies because i pre-bought a bit too many boxes

I wouldn't stock up on newborn size nappies, becaise you don't know how big your bub will be. I had a 4kgs bub and only used one box of new born nappies before we had to go up to the next size 4-8kgs.

It's might save you few dollars but not worth the hassle and trouble of returning it later on.

The new "ultimate" package for new born is stil
      108 nappies in jumbo box.

  • YES stock up - note that the packing sizes of other Huggies boxes has/is going through a change and some retailers are already selling the "new" smaller boxes at the old prices (ie same price - less product), the new packs have large pictures of kids on them the older boxes had (from memory) cartoons etc on the box. If you are expecting soon I would stock up on all sizes before the box size shift finalises.

    • +1

huggies getting rid of the jumbo box of the regular nappy and going down the "Ultimate" nappy at the same price!!!! BUT giving you less nappies per box route

making it more expensive per nappy
..their facebook page is full of angry mums

  • I'm due in June and starting to pay attention to nappy prices. Generally, what's a good price for a jumbo box of Huggies? I'm just trying to figure out what's good, so I know when to stock up.

    • +8

      Huggies

For Jumbo - 108 per box for newborn
23 is the lowest ive seen
      24 is pretty good
      26 is standard sale
33 is ridiculous but if your desperate….since your on OZBargain this should never happen

  • Yep stock up for sure.

  • +2

I wouldnt go bananas buying heaps and heaps of boxes. They grow so quickly.

  • +1

Stock up on a couple of boxes if you are unsure, you will go thru the newborns pretty quickly anyway and if the baby has no adverse reaction (rash, etc) and you believe it works well then buy more later if required. Dont go absolutely crazy with newborn size as you may find bub grows out it quicker than expected (ours grew out of it after ~3boxes, this is also with the same nappies provided by hospital).

  • So that's 22c a happy…

How do these ALDI ones Compare at 15c a nappy.

I try aldi, Coles old, Coles new, huggies, baby love.

No contest huggies the best quality, it's really good for overnight peeing, it hold a lot of pee, for poo however there is no much difference, it will leak no matters the brand.

For me baby love is the best compromise good quality but cheaper especially on sales for night, and I use aldi for day use.

Oh good god. Leaking poo. What have I got myself in to?

        • +1

These are known as poonami or poosplosion. Not really that bad. Use a mattress protector, car seat protector and pram seat cover and you'll be fine.

        • +1

Its rare but it does happen, can be mitigated some what by OzBragain's suggestion below and have spare bed sheets and cover ready.

It can be caused by improper fit of nappy (you'll learn real quick to run your fingers along the side "wings" properly after a couple of leakages), multiple no #1 and or #2 in short time (nothing you can do about this other than make sure the bub do #2 regularly and pray the nappy you have on the bub at the time can soak it all up. Huggies and Maters nappies excels on this for us, Aldi's worse) or simply bad timing (we were using huggies at night and aldi nappy during day, had a few times where there's a couple of "load" straight after during day time and the aldi nappy leaked).

You'll work it out after a few goes, just remember to breath and laugh about it as bub does learn from your behaviour :)

      • Have you ever tried Snugglers? They're made by the same company that makes Huggies. IMO same quality just without the indicator.

    • Don't do Aldi.

We usually go for Babylove… But would recommend Huggies over them for this price.

    • +1

We really like Aldi for use during the day, but overnight we always use Huggies.

    • +1

It depends on the baby. Each brand good slightly differently. When our 9 week old was newborn, Huggies fit best, then started to leak as she grew and is now in Costco nappies. Aldi nappies are currently best fit for our 2 year old. It all depends on the baby's body shape, size, how much they 'produce', etc

  • +1

Check which nappies you like then stock up. U can also use those $x off woolies deliveries also to help with ease and saving extra $ also they may go out of stock on sale.

For those that need other sizes BigW have the new Huggies Ultimate Jumbo Nappies for $25 starting Thursday.

  • Are these the biggest boxes you can get now? I purchased two boxes of 144 newborn huggies for $50 from big w last year. Even though our baby is of average size, we didn't get through all 288 nappies as he grew out of them in a few weeks. I found the babylove newborn nappies were larger in size but couldn't contain the poosplosions as they don't have the elastic catch on the backside. I wouldn't recommend getting more than two boxes as your newborn could grow out of them quickly.

  • Is it only newborn or any age? ;)

    • looks like newborn size only.
