NBN Cheap and Reliable No Contract

Hi

I am with TPG ADSL atm average speed i got at my place is like 8mbs, the contract ends mid march and would be looking for new subscription.

So I am wondering if someone could educate me on what sort of deals are out there and also not to get a crap network …. for unlimited plans on NBN without contract.

Thanks Guys :)

  • If you have ADSL then you wont be able to get NBN unless you have recently been connected to FTTN or HFC NBN.

  • Yes, i think i have just got upgraded to one of these, dont know which one.
There is like a grey colour nbn box outside my place.

Cheap and Reliable doesn't often go in the same sentence.

Have a look at this guy's post on NBN speeds for three different providers: TPG, Belong and Skymesh. Slydog has churned from TPG to Belong and then finally to Skymesh and stuck with the latter.

If all you want is cheap go for TPG, but don't count on them for fast speeds at peak hours or efficient routing to overseas servers like USA.

If you want premium service pay the extra and go with Skymesh. Skymesh are also happy to price match any ISP, as long as it's not an unlimited plan.

    • Haven't had any trouble with my TPG connection (I am on their FTTB plan instead of NBN though)…always 93mbps download and 35mbps upload on wifi, so I personally haven't experienced congestion (area related?)

With international connections I haven't really tested yet, but I do use vpn on all of my connections (connecting to SoftLayer in either Sydney or Melbourne) so I guess it wouldn't really affect me too much anyway.

      • Your mileage will vary, depending on various circumstances like whether or not Tpg is oversubscribed in that certain district or suburb.

For the record I'm only paying 55 a month for 50/20 Tier 3 with Skymesh Ftth (500gb quota anytime) , and getting better speeds than when I was previously with Nuskope / Devoted (devoted went bust) and paying less too.

So you might be surprised to hear that my plan costs less than most 25 megabit plans out there, with only 50 dollars spent on set up. Tpg wants $99..

Tpg might work well in some newly established areas but as NBN uptake increase s and the number of customers on the network increase, you may start getting peak hour congestion.

You also may have no congestion.
I was with TPG nbn for almost 2 years and not once experienced congestion.
My location has had NBN since june 2013.

every NBN server "May" experience congestion that is why it's always best to go for month to month.

        • @Axelstrife: true but problem with month to month is that you need activation fees $100 everytime you change SP

        • @SydBoy: $100 or possible congestion and unable to leave contract.

          worth it.

        • @Axelstrife: agree but paying $100 doesnt guarantee speed so one has to pay everytime speed goes down….why cant we change SP without activation once nbn is active at property? I prefered to pay $10 extra for without contract and try rather pay $100 activation fees

$10/month extra for no contract. Just go the 12 month deal and keep the speed boost to 100/40.

  • I am with Aussie Broadband, so don't try that one……they are increasing their charges by $5 per month from March 2017 !!! The speed is useless in peak time so try someone else.

There is no cheap NBN ……everyone needs atlease $60/month for basic internet with peak time speed of 1 - 1.5 mbps or even less.

    • Well i am with them also - FTTN 100/40 and speeds are always round the 95/30 mark so just don't write them off without doing a bit of research on your node.

There are five property around my property using same node for nbn…and they all get around 7- 9 mbps while i get around 1mbps in peak and 3 mbps in off peak…..so dont make comment without knowing my research skill and the node we use

  • I also have no problems with TPG NBN plan, I am on the 25/5 so I don't think my speed gets throttled, i get close to 22mbps everytime i do the speedtest on my phone :)
