  • Unlock instructions for the Vodafone Smart Mini 7

    Insert a non-Vodafone SIM card
Power on the handset. The device will display "Network locked" or "SIM ME lock"
    Enter the SIM unlock code
Select "OK" - the handset is now successfully unlocked.

    • Still need the code :)

I've unlocked a couple of these recently, you'll get an Aus based unlock code off ebay for ~$2.50…don't go for the US based codes even though they're cheaper & say they work with all countries, they just don't; I had 2/2 failures, lucky the US sellers were good guys on refunds. The Aus ones were 2/2 successes! ;)

    • Awesome, can you provide me with the link/seller?

      • The seller was named deeptelecom…nice guys to deal with, good communication & fast turnaround! :)

        • Thanks.

I purchased it tonight and tried to get Vodafone to unlock it online. They couldn't even find the IMEI on their system so I requested they contact me.

I'll try your guy if Vodafone charges too much.

        • @JB1: It's $2.32…you've got two kidneys, right? ;)

          @StewBalls:

Lol, true, I'll see if vodafone will do it through the proper channels.

          I'm in no rush.

          Thanks again

        • @StewBalls:

Got the code from Vodafone in about 12 hours.

While the phone isn't locked to Vodafone, I have issues with the connection.

          See below.

        • @JB1: Did you find the eBay seller?

          @sween64:

          Vodafone did it for free

  • There is the Vodaphone service tool on their website I think https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv…

Not sure if true but I seem to remember Vodafone did free unlocking? I seem to remember a mate doing it, he told me it was because of people needing to use it for overseas reasons and that was enough for them to do it for free? This may not be the case though so worth checking.

    • Ok thanks, hope this phone is free.

I'll buy the phone anyway, it's amazing what $35 buys you.

    • I purchased it tonight and tried the self service link you gave.

They couldn't even find the IMEI on their system so I requested they contact me.

      • Congratulations, that means you're going to get the code free, takes 2-3 days though

        • Ok cool.

          Same thing happen to you?

        • @JB1:
Only 3 times, lots of others here experience the same thing

        • @bonz:

          Awesome!

          Thanks

        • @bonz:

Got it after 12 hours and unlocked it but unfortunately have issues with the network. See below.

  • Ok I got the code from Vodafone and unlocked it.

However it doesn't seem to recognise my Telechoice SIM.

Keeps on saying no network available (even though I can see the networks when I manually select a network).

I'll try a Telstra and Optus SIM to see if my Telechoice SIM is the problem.

    • This phone will only work with voda or optus or their MVNOs now that telstra has turned off 2G, this phone is missing the 3G 850MHz freq required for telstra. I have the older variant of this phone, my telstra sim stopped working in it last December, using amaysim now

      • OK,thank you very much for the explanation.

I remember reading about Telstra turning off 2G but didn't expect it to affect 3G phones too.
