Flight ADL «---» TAS booking tips

Hi, guys,

I'm in Adelaide and planning to visit Tasmania in mid Oct and stay for 2-3 weeks. Possibly travel with a friend or just myself. :(

I've been checking return flights ADL «—» LST (Launceston) and the cheapest I can find is around $350pp.

Is this normal price for Oct? Any tips of getting cheaper flights to LST?

Thanks a lot.

If you split the booking up you can save

    e.g.

    Jetstar

    ADL to MEL $70
    MEL To LST $55

    Similar for return

Or even Tiger to MEL, and have Jetstar price match the leg and save another 10%

Using Oct 11-13 as depart date Tiger is ADL to MEL $55 So Jetstar would be $50

    (all above doesnt include baggage)

Either that or wait a few months and watch fares Jetstar often has specials especially on friday evenings

Yeah that's super expensive I'd just be waiting for a good sale as its so far away. It'll definitely happen for the October period.

  • Hi,

Thank you both for the reply.

Just tried booking ADL - Mel on IWTF. Seems cheaper this way. However, I am very confused with the two airports in Mel. I search ADL to AVV and ADL to MEL (Tullamarine) and they both come up with the same flights but different prices. I was worried about landing in AVV and departing from MEL or the other way around.

Long story short, after more search, I realise AVV isn't a problem. I am all good now.

I just have one more question. Instead of booking ADL-LST return, if I book ADL-MEL-LST & LST-MEL-ADL, Will there be any hidden possible cost? such as more fee if I have to change/cancel the flights?

    Thanks a lot.

AVV is Avalon near Geelong, just be sure there are flights to launceston from there or you may find your self with an expensive taxi ride to Tullamarine and may risk missing your flight.

Jetstar dont have flights from Avalon to Launceston. Only to Hobart

And yes you will pay more by having two flights if you cancel. But also if you cancel any cheap flight its probably not going to give you much change (money) if you do.

My suggestion - wait for some sales, and then do the two leg strategy if the sales dont appear in the next few months

    • Yeah, that was my concern.

But after more search, I find out AVV is not a problem as what RockyRocoon has stated in the post below.

Will wait for the next sale. Hopefully some good deals will come up very soon.

      Cheers.
