Resident Evil 7 (PS4- $77- $89) & Resident Evil 4 (PS4 - $30-$59) Bundled Combo $89 for Both - JB Hi-Fi

180

Good deal for anyone looking to get both the new RE7 and RE4 titles on PS4 for $89

Went into JB Hifi (Strand Arcade, Sydney) to purchase Resident Evil 7 for PS4 and got chatting to the rep in the games section about Resident Evil 4 on PS4, which retails separately for approx. $30-60 by itself.

They currently have a bundle of Resident Evil 7 special edition (with steelbook case) AND Resident Evil 4 for $89 on PS4. Unconfirmed if they have the same for Xbox One version.

This isn't listed on their website or in their catalogues from what I can see

  • Grabbed this on PC for $43 from cdkeys day of launch short game but overall excellent game reminds me of the original :)

  • I tried buying it one day after release and the steelbook + RE4 edition was sold out at all stores on the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Great price for the two combined. Highly recommend this game for anyone who has the PS VR headset.

    • Absolutely freaky with out the vr hate to see it with it 😞

  • Sold out across SA according to jb modbury :(

Probably shipped 3 copies to SA only, companies supply SFA to SA

  • Peaked my interest with the Steelbook and RE4, but I think I'll wait for price drops

    • Seems to be limited stock for both physical copies as a bundle (Sold out in most states for the comments), I think it was definitely worth picking up

  • +1

I bought it last night when they just received the delivery. Thought posting on OZB but people here is not happy about "back in stock" deals so i did not do it. I confirmed they only had 13 in stocks. You are better be quick before sold out again.

  • i bought RE4 on gamecube at about that price. They put to the extreme ''recycling saves the planet''

The strange thing is that all the HD ports of RE4 were based on the PS2 graphics and not the GC's superior textures.

  • Just a friendly info as I went to JB Hifi at the galleries, its sold out as well

This is the bundle I picked up on launch day at the same price, how is it a bargain?

    • +1

No one was aware that RE4 would be a physical copy.

    • Nowhere has this bundle listed for sale online or in catalogues, so for anyone looking for the two games separately, they'd end up paying over $100 retail, even if they got them separately from overseas/grey import and price matching locally etc.

      • It was mentioned in the RE7 steelbook listing that RE4 was included. TBH, I thought it would be the digital version but was happy to see it was a physical copy.

  • Strange choice to bundle 7 with 4.

    • Not really given how 4 was recieved.

As someone new to the series, I'd be asking, what happened to 5 and 6? Am I meant to play 4 first then jump straight to 7? And why does 4's graphics look so bad?

        • You could get away with getting the Origins edition/collection for the remakes of 0 and 1 to give you a bit of background, but each game is meant to be independent, linking in/referring to the bigger events from previous games (Umbrella Corp, Raccoon city). So you don't really need to play the other games to enjoy 4 or 7 separately, but some of the background of the story just isn't as clear without it.

Here's a link mapping out the playable characters by game in the series just to show you how each game can have different protagonist(s) and story arcs/relevance while still being independent games

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Resident_Evil_characte…

7 looks pretty independent from what I can see/have heard

For the progression of games/graphics comment:
Resident Evil 1-3 were on PS1 era, Resident Evil 4 was on PS2/Gamecube era and Resident Evil 5-6 were on PS3 originally (and have also been ported to PS4).

Considering RE4 is a port/remake of the PS2 version (over 10 years old), it's not going to be AAA level game quality. A few of the reviews I've read complained there isn't any anti-aliasing or cleaning up the graphics even further, but the game doesn't stutter or lag and plays fairly well for a game of its age.

So you don't really need to play the other games to enjoy 4 or 7 separately

You don't have to, but would people know that? At the very least it would make one wonder what happened to the games in between. You have an explanation, but they don't. If it was RE6 included or even RE1, there would be fewer questions.

I'm actually not new to RE. I've played them all including RE0, Code Veronica, and Revelations 1 and 2. But from the perspective of someone new, it is a curious thing to bundle. They could have bundled any game with RE7. Why 4? I would have gone with the RE1+0 HD collection.

Considering RE4 is a port/remake of the PS2 version (over 10 years old), it's not going to be AAA level game quality.

I know that. I'm not actually asking these questions. But they're the questions I would ask if I was new to the series. Of which no answer will have been given. It would be jarring to me to get a modern looking game and have it bundled with a very old looking game. The difference is staggering. Plus the games don't even play alike.

I probably won't play RE7, despite being a big fan of the previous games. I liked the older games for what they were. RE4 was a departure but still fun. RE5 I didn't like. RE6 is a guilty pleasure. I like it more than 5 but it is the most hated by the RE community. RE7 to me is not Resident Evil. The series has never been full on horror like this game is. At best you had jump scares. I never felt dread when playing the games, only alarm (dogs jumping through the windows or Nemesis/Mr.X appearing at random). These jump scares were taken out completely in 4, 5 and 6 in favor of making them action games. And I don't think a single RE fan asked for a first person game. Doesn't help that RE7 has none of the characters from the series that I'd come to like. A mainline RE game without Chris or Leon? Blasphemy.

So yeah, if anything I'll wait till RE7 hits the bargain bin.

What I want to see is a return to fixed cameras. But I will accept another partner based action game if it brings back old cast members like Jill, Claire, Ada, Chris, and Leon and builds on some of the things RE6 did right.

        • @lostn:

Eh, I think it's up to the consumer/buyer at that point to figure out if they need to or don't need to play other game in the series. It'd be like if you picked up GTAV and it was bundled with a San Andreas HD remake, you can still play the games independently although some of the backstory/references won't be as relevant.

For why they bundled it with 4 specifically, no idea. Possibly the RE1+0 HD Collection as being more expensive to write off as a bundled item as it's a proper HD remake of a PS1 game instead of a slight HD remake/port? Or that RE4 was seen as the more well-known RE game (Almost every person I've spoken to has said they enjoyed RE4 the most because it was a departure from expectations/the norm and was a lot of people's first RE game in the PS2 era)

You're right, the games are extremely different and don't even play alike, but I think it's like what's coming with the new MGS games; it's going to piss a lot of people off, but there'll be a portion of people who will enjoy it still.

  • Good bargain if you haven't played RE4 (or want to play RE4 again in HD). Does RE4 (PS4) come with all the additional content?

Played enough of RE4 on GC & Wii, so will wait for a price drop on RE7.

    • Not sure what you mean for RE4's additional content. Just came with the game disc.

If you meant RE7, it does come with the additional content/packs.

    • Yes, it comes with all the additional content.

  • For RE4 - additional content I meant it has the Ada Wong mission - Separate Ways.

  • Can't find this anywhere :(
