Are SCA Car stands 3000kg for $40 a good price/reliable?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to doing a little DIY for my car (oil changes and minor work) and need to get some car stands. Are these reliable and a good price at all? http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/SCA-Car-Stands-Pin-…

Thanks!

Yeah they're pretty decent - I feel safe under the car with them. Would definitely not feel safe with the 1200KG ones, even if it was under a Toyota Starlet.

    • I had my car up on 4 stands for a gearbox job recently. The 1200kg ones I have from ages ago were up the back, the 3000kg ratchet type were up the front. Felt safe to me, I shook the car about a bit to be sure. I've had the 1200kg ones under the front of an old V8 valiant a number of times too, but did back them up with the jack.

1200kg should be enough for each corner of a regular car. Our large 4wd weighs about 2200kg so each stand would only be getting about 30% if you jacked up the front - assuming 60/40 weight distribution due to the engine at the front

  • they look more substantial than the ones I use.

I also leave the jack in place and put wheel under car.

  • Just dont let them rust in the elements. They lose their structural integrity

Thanks for the replies! I might go grab some tomorrow and then wait for a good car jack deal.

  • just make sure got everything on a level ground

SCA had a recall on similar, so when you buy them make sure they scan yr member card in case they need to get in touch.

    • Thanks! I saw that post when I was looking around earlier but found that it was a different model/withstanding weight so hoping they took the problems with those and made new better ones. I don't have a member card but will be sure to get one.

  • Yeah bought those same ones on a deal a couple of years ago have lasted me well.
Though I waited for a deal on a jack too and got the cheapest (well the cheapest that was rated for enough weight) and I'm kinda dissapointed by it. Barely lifts my big car high enough to get wheels in the air (like it reaches its max and I have about a cm or two). And I have to wiggle it in to get it to barely fit under my smaller hatchback.
So yeah don't cheap out on a jack because it seriously makes working on cars take so much longer and so much more effort
