Need an Android phone < $150 that will work with an Aldi sim card

Hey guys

I need to buy a new phone that is cheap. My budget is up to $150 (though preferably less). Can I get something that will work with an Aldi sim card? I looked at Coles, Woolworths, Big W and Officeworks today and couldn't find anything.

I'm looking for something that I can buy locally because I don't have any working phone at the moment.

Not fussy about the specs. Would prefer a 5" screen but it's not critical. I mainly use the phone for SMS, Facebook, Snapchat and occasional web browsing.

Thanks!

If you don't mind the wait, find yourself a cheap Xiaomi phone, they have bang for buck. Gearbest.com or something.
If you want to be a little more descriptive as to what you want, it'd help us find you something, else you can go grab any phone from any retailer and you'll have a phone that works on an aldi sim.

Plus you can probably find previous threads with answers in them already.

Will an Aldi sim work in phones that are locked to certain networks e.g. Telstra, Optus etc? Sorry I don't know much about this.

Ehh… there's some mixed reports about some Telstra phones working with Aldi SIMS, but not all.

Aldi is on the Telstra Network.

If it is Sim Locked, then Telstra only.
If it is Network Locked, then all sims on the Telstra Network.

The Phones you purchase do not specify what kind of lock they have on them, so stick to either buying unlocked, or checking ebay for cheap unlock codes.
Some of the Alcatel Optus phones had $1 sim unlocks. Gotta research the specific phone model though, but i'll leave that to you.

Also if you aren't game to unlock your own phone, stick to unlocked.

        • Was going to suggest eBay or bagman as well, missed the bus poop soooooo I'm stuck here for the next 50 minutes :(. My Ozbargain addiction is killing me :(, "laughs hysterically" but I love it :p

        • Is it difficult to unlock? Assuming I can buy a code on eBay (which I believe I can for a Telstra 4GX Buzz).

        • @DonaldH: No, it's very easy. Just provide network name, phone model number, IMEI number.

To get the IMEI number check the battery compartment, or dial *#06#

        • @DonaldH: I was going to recommend this phone, or the slim if it was on sale. If they are cheap enough, go for it. often the seller will give you instructions on how to unlock

This ZTE Nubia Z7 Max is still $99 USD. It has the same core specs as a Samsung Galaxy S5, so it's not a terrible phone either.
