Vodafone Plan about to Finish - Now What?

So my Vodaphone plan is about to end next month. Currently been on unlimited calls and texts including a Galaxy s5 for $60 p/m. I can see this price is a little expensive nowadays.

Vodaphone have offered me to 'upgrade' to their $40 deal including a new s5. Not sure how it's an upgrade though.

Nothing wrong with my current phone, it works fine.

So I'm thinking of just getting a sim only plan with whoever has a good deal and reputation.

I want unlimited calls and txts with at least 1.5gb data. I don't use alot of data so I don't need heaps.

I asked Telstra yesterday but they just told me how great Telstra was…yes that was their actual words. $40 for $1,000 calls + unlimited txts. Pfft.

Looking at others but I am not familiar with any of them, have noticed some are 28days, others are 30 days…….ideas ?

Cheers

Pookie

  • Where do you live? Do you go out regional often? Key questions in determining what level of network coverage you need.

If you are primarily metro based which I assume you are based on the fact you are a Vodafone customer, then you could look at $40 for 10gb BYO on either Optus or Vodafone. Both have unlimited calling and text.

Whilst the Telstra deal is not unlimited, the $1000 is still a fair amount. How much calling do you do?

    • Not that much :)

But still its $40 compared to others at around $20

  • +1

Aldi has an offer that starts tomorrow.

    • Tempting…i still have 20 days left on vodaphone contract..so Aldi might be finished this deal by then?

If you'd like to use the Optus 4G+ Network go ahead and try OVO. A family member uses OVO and ported their number over within a day. $24.95 for 2GB data and unlimited calls&txt, prepaid is literally postpaid on OVO.

  • If you are happy with your existing Vodafone coverage & don't need a new handset, then check out deals from Kogan Mobile.

    • This too looks very tempting. The 365 day 1gb data deal is perfect for me. $179 Works out at $14.79 per 30 days. The Vodafone network has lifted its game lately, around here anyway. About to pull trigger on this…hmmmm….waiting overnight…sleep on it :)

  • Do you go overseas often? Nothing beats Voda's $5 roaming and you'll lose that if you switch away, or go prepaid

If you go to Europe, you are better off buying a local sim card and paying $15 a month for unlimited phone calls if you need it.
If Vodafone offered that service free, that would be a real argument for staying with them. Plus do some calculations as how many days one would have to be overseas to even get that value given that otherwise you could be saving $30 a month as compared to the OP's current plan.

    • Do i loose it if i goto kogan on vodaphone network?

      • Even though Kogan uses VF network as a MVNO, it's a different telco so yes you will lose any VF entitlements. Same with Telstra and Optus MVNOs.

        • Hmm ok. Something to consider. Cheers

  • You could ask Vaya online chat if they will still honour their 'Unlimited L' deal: https://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Terms-and-Policies/Summer-12…

    You pay $206 upfront for 12 months (unlimited calls + 3gb on Optus 4G) = ~ $17/month.
    Working fine for me.

    • I left them a message to see if they will still honour it :)

It's between Kogan and Vaya now.

      Cheers

  • Ok. Thanks for all your replies :) here's further info:

I live in Wollongong. Never go far…sometimes to Sydney or Nowra.

    Never go overseas.

Mostly use wifi for browsing/updates etc..

Don't see the point in new phone since mine works fine, although 2 yrs old may start to faulter?
    I don't want a bigger phone anyway.

    :)

Looks like there's a couple of deals for $20 +/- a few dollars. Much better than $40+

    As always good advice here…cheers…pookie

  • Just wondering if it's possible to buy one of these Aldi or Kogan or Vaya deals and not activate it until my Vodaphone contract expires in about 20 days time?

    • I think you'll find the Aldi $249 deal has sold out in many places, see that thread. But yes, you have until Jan 18 to activate that if you get one.

  • Ok thanks.

My local Aldi are sold out.

So that leaves choice of Vaya or Kogan….hmmm…

    Still deciding.

    • Read my OVO post above.
