Idiots Guide to Parking at Westmead Children's Hospital Sydney

Hey, bit of a drama unfolding.

But hoping someone can give me some tips about parking at Westmead Hospital. I have a 5hr drive and potentially 7 days of hanging around while supporting my awesome kid at Westmead. Cheapest I have seen is $8 for two hours, any long term options?

Thanks dudes

      Thanks for your kind thoughts

  • Any Secure Parking or Wilson Parking nearby? By pre-paying you can take advantage of any coupons floating around here

Unfortunately Westmead Hospital does not cater for long term parking. Your best bet is to park near the station on Park Ave and walk the 8mins to the hospital.

    • Thanks good info I'll leave my car at a friend's in North Sydney and get a train down

      • beware that's around 45-60 mins train ride. You should be able to park closer to the hospital on streets without Ps.

Also best of luck with your child; hope everthing goes well.

Talk to the hospital or the nearby Ronald McDonald House.

When we had the same thing in Brisbane, the hospital arranged free parking for us. We also had other parents tell us that they were parking at Ronald McDonald house for next to nothing. I'm pretty sure they had to stay there to get the parking, but it sounds like you might want to look at staying there too.

Thanks I will contact Ronald McDonald House in Westmead to find out

      • good luck mate, hope everything works out well.

Also, don't forget to claim your travel and accommodation through IPTAAS (Isolated Patients Travel & Accommodation Assistance Scheme). They will pay about 22cents a km for your travel and some reimbursement for accommodation if you stay in hotel/motel or at friend's/relative residence. They don't reimburse you for parking/food/tolls.

There was a post about this on reddit last year: https://www.reddit.com/r/sydney/comments/46ueke/westmead_hos…

I wish you the best of luck.

Westmead is a nightmare to park in. I used to park in Wentworthville (plenty of unmetered parking within 1-2mins walking distance to station) and train it 1 stop. Best wishes to you and your family :)

  • There's free street parking nearby, but your chances of getting a close spot is only good if it's between midnight and 6am.

I'm guessing there's people renting out their driveways/garages.

  • You can park in the station parking, it is unlimited. Alternatively you can park on the other side of the station, forgot the name of the street but there is a school on it. Unlimited parking there too

  • OP, you can get a weekly pass which was around $50 (not sure but way less than the daily rate) 2 years ago IF the Doctors/Head Nurse approve it. I know this from personal experience.

  • Thanks everyone,
looks like if I don't move my car and say I lost my ticket I can just pay once= @$17 as the ticket machines are being replaced…
.that's what the lady at the info desk told me anyway…
Thanks again for all the feedback, the OzBargain community is awesome!

    • I hope you don't get fined or towed.

  • Best wishes to you and your child.
Are you staying at the hospital or with your friend at North Sydney? If staying at North Sydney, I recommend the train. Far more relaxing than taking on Sydney's ridiculous traffic ( epecially if you are unfamiliar with the route). Even if it takes an hour , it may end up being quicker than driving. The walk to the hospital from Westmead station is mainly down hill and less than 10 minutes.

  • Park on the street a couple of blocks away. Thats what we did although I cant recall a time limit.

Dont park in the unit block car spaces, you may get towed
