How to go from plan to prepaid?

Hi guys
I am going oseas for good
Currently on a $80 my plan plus with optus but out of contract
I don't want to pay plan anymore as I won't use it but I still want to keep my number
How do I change to prepaid
Do I just call up optus?

Buy a cheap ($2 or free) SIM card e.g. Woolies, 711; activate it and choose to "port existing number".

You need to find a Prepaid Dealthat offers 365day expiry if you are heading overseas long-term and not actively using the number to make calls.

I know Vodafone offfers this, maybe others.

He probably just forgot to stop his postpaid before entering the cryogenic freezer back in 2012.

  • Other providers offering 365 day expiry are Amaysim and Aldimobile. But if you are going for good just get the cheapest with a voicemail message and say you're gone since it will be very expensive to use roaming to take calls, but incoming SMS is free.

  • If you're going overseas and not using the number, just go into an optus store and ask to move to prepaid and long expiry plan, $60 recharge will hold your number for 1 year. But you'll have to recharge it $60 every year to hold the number.

    • thanks just had a look - they also have $10 every 186 days - wouldnt that be better - but ill have to recharge twice a year
