Do Roach Baits Work?

I have a roach infestation in my apartment I believe they come crawling somewhere down near the garbage 3 levels down, they pretty much come through my main door and stay in the kitchen.

Recently I purchased some Mortein roach bait to kill these tiny critters, they're small not the large ones. The product doesn't seem to have any effect? Do they really work? I have checked out some reviews and most say they aren't reliable.

  • We have used the small plastic square ones with holes in the side… and they did have an effect.
The pest self treatment spray at Bunnings… about $15 for 3 litres with a sprayer… work well if you spray around where they are getting in. Lasts about a month or two but you will get plenty of sprays from the sprayer.
Make sure any food source outside is removed, especially pets food dishes. Also remove any debris or junk laying around and keep the lawns mowed.

  • We had the small ones in an apartment in the Inner West (Sydney). Ended up getting a pest controller to come and do it and he used some gel for the big ones and some toxic dust for the little ones. 2 days, they were all gone and never came back. Best money I had spent.

Just be clear it's the little ones because the treatment is a bit more than the chemical for the big black ones.

  • I have the same issue, im currently using the plastic squares and they don't seem to be doing an awful lot yet.. Didnt want to use the bombs because i figured id have to remove everything from the cupboards or clean it all. Sprays seem'd expensive, but i'm curious to know what the best option is.. I read through PJC's link and i'm after some comprehensive comments on the topic and not 'YE JUST GET THE 3 PACKS OF BOMBS AYE'.

  • If they are the small ones, they are most likely German cockroaches. Almost impossible to get rid of without professional help. Good luck.

  • There used to be nestkill ones that worked great, I have not seen them in 2 years or so.

  • Yes they did for me <the square, black mortein ones from bunnings from memory>. I had big american cockroaches. And no one likes them, right? Had no problem for a few years.

  • Talk to your building manager or real estate agent about having a treatment done for both your unit and the building.
very few strata companies do this annually, but its the best solution to the problem.
