Best Travel Money Card for USA

Hi guys,

I will be traveling and staying in USA for 2 weeks in April.
I'm just wondering what would be the best travel money card to buy.. I have done some research between a few banks and Travel Money OZ but not 100% sure on which one I should go with.

Can someone shed some light on the topic and give me some recommendations on who to go with.

Thank you in advance.

Citibank plus - I use mine everywhere. Easy to find fee-free partner ATMs in most countries - excellent exchange rates just simple, no hassle, no hidden fees.

Just use the ATM with your normal card

  • Not sure what research you did but as above get a citibank plus account.

  • In the US at the moment. Like everyone else has said Citibank plus is the way to go.

  • Citibank for sure, have used it 4 times through the US with no issues. Just be sure to let them know you are travelling as they have a nice habit of putting a stop on the card when they see to many overseas purchases and they stop it and wait for you to phone them instead of them phoning you and querying purchases.

  • I just noticed that citibank is charging conversion fees now (2.5%). Is this card still the best option ?

Nope, not for ATM withdrawals with the Plus. This canard keeps getting dragged up.

    • No they are NOT charging conversion fees now!

So yes, the card is still the best option.

      Fees & Charges

Local & International Payments and Foreign Currency Services (Excludes
      Citibank Plus Transaction
      and Citibank Online Saver Accounts)

BTW, where did you notice this canard?

  • went to citybank plus site and checked how much i would get for 3k aud in usd. It was 2266. with the qantas cash card I would get 2200 usd. so is 60 aud worth setting up a new account?

    • This is ozbargain, that's a rhetorical question, yes?

      • The question is if I would lose more than $60 in lose of incoming by the time it would take to setup the bank account. especially my post office here is not the fastest one.

        • How so? You don't need to deposit any money into it until the account is active and you have your card. If you are concerned about losing savings interest, you can set up a linked savings account which offers good honeymoon rates.

  • OK ordered one. So easy and fast. Very impressive. Took me less than 10 minutes to apply

  • Hey all, If I am heading to Canada in three weeks, do you think these travel cards would make it to my house in time?
Also is there a list of ATMs that can be used in Canada and America?

  • Yes you should be fine. I applied online last wednesday and received the card today in the mail.
