Employment Law Specialist Sydney - Advice Please

Hi all,

Short and sweet. I need some legal advice from my employment contract perspective as I have been sent a letter from my previous employer that I am in breach of my contract as am planning on working for a company that was a client of my previous employer - even though the new job offer is extremely different and my old job software only makes up a small percentage of overall range of systems and products being used. My old employer knows as my intended new company disclosed it. I was aware of the potential breach issue prior but was basically assured it would not be an issue by the new employer.

Any recommendations of employment law specialist in Sydney would be appreciated - or if anyone has been in a similar situation I would really love a PM or chat here.

Thanks in advance.
Chris

Slater and Gordon will generally do a free consultation. IANAL, but I can speak generally about employment law if I have specifics. Feel free to PM me, but I will probably couch anything in you seeding to seek professional advice.

I did some employment law at Uni. Not a expert but basically

    • You need to tell both employers

    • You need to read your freaking contract. Sometimes it's fine but a lot of the time you can't go to a client / competitor for a certain period.

I was aware of the potential breach issue prior but was basically assured it would not be an issue by the new employer.

Yeah… I wouldn't mention that if it goes to court.

In the future , check with employer, double check with a lawyer…..Then take the job.

What specifically are you in breach of?

    • the breach is going to working for what was previously a client of my old employer
