UberEats Expectations

Hi all,

I had a query about how UberEats operates - when you order food (to home, or workplace), is it expected that the UberEats driver bring the food up to you (like traditional delivery services), or are we to meet them on the street and grab the food from them there?

Thanks.

My office is on the 11th floor of a building in the city, 3 out of the 7 times we've ordered UberEats its been delivered to the front desk on our floor, the other 4 times we've had to go outside to meet the driver and collect it from him while he's still been in the car.

I definitely appreciate it more when they can deliver it to our floor as requested, but understand they cant always find a park and sometimes it's easier/more convenient to just call and ask if we can meet them out the front. I'm under the impression they don't get paid great so if they spend a few extra minutes finding a park and taking the elevator up, in their eyes its probably valuable time that could be spent driving to pick up the next delivery.

  • I've mentioned to come up to my floor in the special requests/comments and haven't had a problem

  • I ordered it at uni one night when I was studying in the library, it's pretty hard to park but she parked the moped and walked up a big flight of stairs to get to where I was, highly impressed.

  • All the times I have ordered UberEats to my apartment, I've had to go out to the street to get it. Which I don't mind, but just wanted to see what the generally accepted etiquette has been.

  • Got mine delivered to a hotel room in the City (next to Central Station Sydney) with no problem

  • Lately, my drivers don't even stop. It's their arm out the window and they slow down to about 5kph.

  • I live in Fitzroy and am looking for any recommendations for the deliver at home places. Are there any that people think I should go with, or avoid? Thanks

    • here is the link for Melbourne - http://melbourne.ubermovement.com/how-to-deliver-with-uber/

its same as Brisbane, the statement doesn't change.

      • Thanks, but I was looking for restaurant recommendations. Ones that people have ordered from that they liked.

        • sorry din't read your comment in full. I live in Brisbane, sorry I cannot help you with that.

But UberEATS does not have ratings or feedbacks on their app but I guess you can cross compare with apps/sites like Zomato

          Hopefully it helps.

        • @entercoolusername: Thanks for the reply. There is just so many options that I usually give up and find something in the freezer. (prob better for me anyway) but I thought I would see if anyone has a favourite they could recommend.

  • This should answer your question if you are in Brisbane.

    1. Completing a trip quickly
Use the pickup instructions in the app to find the best place to park or wait at the restaurant. (You must be using Uber Maps for this to work. If you are using Google Maps or WAZE you will have to click back into the Uber App to find pick up instructions)
After pickup make your way to the eater’s location using the most efficient route.
When you reach the eater’s location, we suggest that you park your vehicle and hand over the order at the eater’s door. (As long as parking permits and it is safe to do so!)
If you cannot reach the eater’s door, you can contact them through the Uber Partner app to coordinate pickup
    .

So most driver who are delivering your food can be Uber X drivers, who might not stop to deliver to the door( because time is money), where as others( mostly push bikes and motorbikes) have no trouble parking will hand deliver.

I work for UberEATS and I can kinda shed some light on this..

I will personally always go to the recipients office (unless there is security like a few of the buildings in the city), apartments in high rises etc. The main issue that I have is that people are horribly vague on where they are located. With apartments I'd say 7/10 deliveries I get given an apartment number, otherwise I just get the address of the highrise. In the case that I only get the address of the building I will strive to get to the apartment/office by calling them, but by this point in time im semi annoyed already and that usually shows so the recipient will come downstairs. In office buildings, 9/10 recipients will only say the level that they are on.. but there will be 3 businesses on that level..

    At the end of the day, I believe that delivery drivers should go to the offices but at the same time I can understand why they would just call ahead to get people to come down stairs.. These reasons include;
    - Generally when you are ordering food its super busy and during a peak time, in the time it would take to get your food to you they would have another job and be earning more money. The period of jobs for ubereats drivers is very small so every minute counts. It becomes extremely frustrating when time is being wasted. For example the other day I had someone who wouldn't answer their phone, did not give me an office location (only a building address) and the front desk wouldn't accept the food, in the hour between 1-2pm I was only able to do that job earning me about $11, in the previous hour I made about $43.
    - I would be personally annoyed if I had to deliver to high rises all day as my earnings would be so low as a result of all the time spent going up and down to find people.
    - As stated above, lots of deliverers are uber x drivers so parking a car can be nearly impossible (I ride a motorcycle so I dont really have this issue).

    My only recommendation is to either go one of two ways;
    - Accept that they wont come up to your office and you will make the drivers life a hell of a lot easier. I love it when people come down to find me it saves me so much time its ridiculous. You do get notifications of when the drivers are arriving so its fairly easy to go down this avenue. When we deliver the food to you, we also have to wait until we are back outside the building in order to being getting jobs again because of the lack of reception in every elevator ever.
    - Be as descriptive as possible.. If you are in a particular business, state the business name, state where it is, state where one can park, state where to enter the building etc. (I once had a woman who couldn't tell me how to even get into her building.. yet again another infuriating moment..). But to be honest, if you are in the heart of any city you are unlikely to have someone come up to your office (I would, but as I said a lot of others wouldn't).

Just to be clear this mainly applies in the city. I have ordered ubereats myself and received a car deliverer who told me to come out the front of my apartment block.. I thought this was odd because im in a very accessible 'non security entrance' apartment complex. But in saying this, the time it would take to drive in and then logistically manage to drive out would be quite long.

Happy to de-bunk any specific questions if anyone has them.

      Thanks for the detailed response.

Just checked my Ubereats work address, its just the street number and name, no floor or section.

Never thought about this as I usually watch them on the phone as they get closer and meet them downstairs.

Next time I'll put more detail in comments, that I'll come down and where to meet them
