Looking for a new laptop for a student ($1500 budget)

Hey guys!

I'm currently in search of a laptop for my girlfriend's younger sister (year 9 student). Ideally looking for a laptop with about 5 year or so lifespan as she plans to take it with her into uni. She made it clear that it would be ideal if she could play overwatch on it as well. So looking for something thats suitable for a student, decent battery life and can handle running overwatch. I'm aware of Dell having some 20% off sales atm but not sure which one I should be going for. Possible the XPS 13? Budget is slightly flexible, especially if offering lots of value for her buck. Any help would be appreciated!

  • The Lenovo posted by TA would meet pretty much most of a high schooler's requirement (including games like Overwatch), although the 5 year lifespan is unlikely for a laptop of this caliber. It's pretty good value and you're getting a lot of performance for your dollar, but it's build quality is only above average.

You could consider a Latitude 5000 / 7000 series or a Thinkpad T460s / T460, although that means sacrificing quite a bit of GPU performance.

    • Thanks for the feedback, any insight is appreciated at this point. The E470 definitely offers some great bang for your buck. Any other suggestions for products of similar specs but better build quality? Have a flexible budget to work with (:

  • +1

5 years is a long time. Maybe you could buy an $800 dollar laptop now invest the remainder and buy another laptop in two or three years.

    • Yeah, Im aware that 5 years is a bit of a stretch especially given the budget. Ideally the laptop should get her through high school at the minimum.
