Mazda 2 Genki 2016 Automatic Experience

Hi OzBargainers,

I'd like to share my experience with my first car purchase of the Mazda 2 Genki 2016 Model (Auto).
I'm taking this as a learning experience for when i need to purchase another car in the future.

I originally had my eyes set on this used car from City Mazda.

+6000kms
+5 Months Rego
+Tinting
+Matts
+Black license Plate

We spent the whole day yesterday calling/driving around to dealerships to see what they had on offer.
The one i purchased was found at Brighton Mazda (VIC). It ended up being a new car, with colour of choice of the Genki 2016.

When negotiations started, in my mind i wanted to get as close to the used car i linked above, in terms of price and extras.
The price started at 26k+ but because of the 2016 plate clearance, the dealer started off as 24k+ (Standard across all Mazda dealers)
After about an hour and a half, we agreed upon 22.5k
+Tinting
+Full tank of Fuel
+Mats
+Black license plate

For those that have recently made this purchase, what kind of deal did you score? Any extras included?
Was mine a solid deal? Could i have gone lower? Or added more extras?

As we've agreed on the price of 22.5k. We were also in the works of trading in an old Mazda car from 2002.
My question is how do you pay for the car, when its not completely settled on price?
Do i write a cheque for 16k + EFTPOS the rest?

Thanks for your input.

Not a bad a deal, but nothing amazing in the grand scheme of things
provided a full tank of fuel is an expectation these days I would say the dealer hasn't really bent over backwards to provide this to you :)
    Tinting is a good freebie
Mats once again are expected in 2017 due to the cheaper carpet in cars (thin)
Black licence plate - not too sure what this entails but coo

I would of pushed a little more on the extras, throw in the free rust proofing / interior detail but thats just me, if you're happy then I wouldnt worry too much about it

For 22.5 its not a bad deal, espcially for new + non standard colour

They should of also provided advice on how to sort out trade in / provided paperwork and instructions at time of sale

    • Kicking myself abit for not pushing for the cargo tray and arm rest.

Wondering if we I can negotiate it when we try trade in the car

  • You would've already signed, so asking if anyone has gotten a better deal is just silly imo.

How have you not finalised the price? Did they give you the trade value or not?

Imo Mazda 2 Genki is overpriced anyway. Buying a small car for a larger car price is crazy. $22.5k gets you a half-decent car in the next size category (Corolla, Mazda 3 etc) and it's not like the Genki gets a sunroof or bigger engine

    • Subjective, but wouldn't the Corolla hold it's value better too?

    • Just would like to know a ball park figure out of curiosity.

Price has been finalised. (signed the papers) but I asked about trading in the old car when I pick up the new one, as parents wanted to trade it in and weren't available at the time.

  • Brand new Gray colour Auto. $22k drive away in September 2016 during the M sale that included extras. The sales person went back and forth to the manager's office multiple times as we said we will not pay anymore.

    • Yeah I had a similar experience with them going back and forth.

What extras were included in yours?

      • About $500rrp worth of accessories; car mats, headlight covers, boot mat. 1 year rego and ctp, 1 year extended warranty and 3 year road side assist.
Then when we went to pick up the car, flowers lol. Had to ask them for their Mazda dealer keyrings incase we lose the keys and the finder can return to dealer.
After the 1 month checkup, dealer stickers came off, got the car tinted and opticoat paint protection elsewhere. Will also get the car future service at my trusty mechanic.
