Help to Configure Internet Access Point on Nokia N97

Hi, not sure if anyone can help as this is a very old phone. I'm unable to access the internet on this phone and I have been advised by my ISP, Vodafone, to contact Nokia to help me to configure an internet access point on it. However, Nokia mobile has no tech support anymore as it's been sold to Microsoft. Microsoft are not interested in helping.
What I have tried to do is go to: "Connectivity" "Admin. settings" "APN control" - No access point names appears then and Press 'Options' to add new access point name.
When I press 'Options' to "Add name manually", it reverts to: - No access point names - Press 'Options' to add new access point name.
Would be really grateful if anyone can give me directions. Many thanks in advance.

Any reason you can't use Vodafone's ota settings? http://www.vodafone.com.au/devices/ota-settings

    • Thanks very much for your help. Vodafone has now configured an access point for me. My next problem is when trying to download the Airbnb app, I get the error msg "unable to create a secure connection to this server". Vodafone says it's because Nokia is not Android and uses a Symbian processor. Just wondering if you could help.

If you are browsing the wen via the symbian browser then its its the browsers security feature that is not up to date but if your tethering then there is another issue.

The android thing is if you download the app but that will give you other errors not the one you have listed.

        • Thank you for your reply, I appreciate you taking the time. I'm a complete technophobe as you've probably gathered. Off now to look up 'tethering'. :)

        • @aretsa9:

Tethering is when you use you mobile which is connected to your computer via bluetooth or cable and it ises the phone as a modem.

You will need to install nokia suite and on the pc for the drivers to install so your pc can use it.

Maybe it's your SIM card? Depending on how old it is, you have to get the carrier to enable the internet. Otherwise people (would) rack up a bill worth thousands

No one can help you with that. The phone uses Symbian, a very old operating system for phones that is no longer supported. Airbnb apps are only developed on Android and iOS.

If you need to access the app, you will have to buy another phone or try to navigate the airbnb website on N97's browser.

Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate you taking the time to help a technophobe :) I didn't realise that the Airbnb app was only for Android and iOS.

I posted a comment to try and help you and you're being sarcastic. Fantastic that's why I don't help people.

        • My apologies for the misunderstanding, it was certainly not my intention to be sarcastic. I'm merely ignorant of mobile tech issues. Thanks for your reply.

@aretsa9: If that is the case, then go out today and buy another phone. The N97 is too old

I dont think Aribnb has an app for symbian os.

      • Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

    • Are their interpreter/wrapper apps for Symbian that allow the use of android apps, like Blackberry had? I don't think so, but I haven't used a symbian device for about 8 tears so I'm not sure.

In any case, your device is old and slow and unlikely to provide a very useable experience for an app that depends on lots of images and calendars and maps etc.
Are you able to access the AirBNB website via the device browser instead?
Surely you encounter many apps not available for your device these days, how have you handled it previously?

      • Thanks for your reply, I appreciate you taking the time to explain. I'm a complete technophobe so haven't used many apps :)

Can you browse to any HTTPS sites? I think the security protocols have moved on so your device can't connect.

      • Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it. I haven't needed to browse any other websites apart from Airbnb on my phone. Time for a new phone, I guess :)

    • Not supported end of story
the phone was made in 2009, its now 2017

The fact of the matter is NOKIA SYMBIAN OS IS NOT A SUPPORTED PLATFORM
your phone is ANTIQUE in the security standards used today

You already had one thread about this last night and YOU CONTINUE to ignore the help from knick077 and numerous other users
can you seriously stop trying to make this work and listen to what everyone is trying to say to you…

the APN makes no difference to the way your phone interacts with the AIRBNB app or whatever you use on that heap of junk
the APN is an internet access point, you can try until the cows come home to try and access airbnb via your device but if SSL / or security settings on your device do not work with the settings they use, you will never get a secure connection

At the end of the day the device is unsupported, third party coders "MAY" of had an app that worked, protocols change, security changes on servers / back ends
    you've done this to death

    Enough is enough

The phone was made in 2009, TLS and SSL standards have changed HEAPS since 8 years ago

    this is your other thread

Your device unfortunately won't run the app or website
as much as I appreciate you wanting to keep the old nokia going (8 years is a great run for the N97, I would of expected the flip keyboard or screen ribbon cable to be stuffed by now) you really need to part ways with it and grab an android device for the best experience
