Is It Worth Using Custom Rom (for Redmi Note Pro 3 SE)

Hey guys,

So I got a specal redmi device recently.
Initially I bought it with the intention of flashing the rom to a custom rom. (Largely due to poor feedback re MIU interface)

However after getting the phone and now using it for a few days (waiting to get bootloader approval), I'm finding that MIU interface relatively easy to use. I'm using google now as the launcher.

I was previously using a Nexus 5 and liked having vanilla android and prompt OTA updates.

The advantages of staying with MIU
-avoid hassle
-OTA updates

Advantage of custom roms
-?Closer to vanilla experience
-Can update whenever I want

What I'm really wondering is what differences should I expect if I do go ahead with a custom rom such as lineage OS

Cheers

  • LineageOS also has/had the potential for OTA updates via apps like CyanDelta, for whatever that's worth.
If you're happy with your device in its present state, then you can stick with MIUI until they stop supporting/updating it. Then you can move onto 3rd party ROMs.

  • Custom roms are usually slower and buggier than stock ROMs IME.

Often the battery life is better owning to different CPU/GPU governors being used. You can get this yourself buy flashing a custom kernal onto stock ROMs (provided it's possible on the device in question). But that is at the expense of some performance usually.
