DVD/DivX Player for TV?

Hey guys, I'm sorry to be creating a thread on this, but I know OzBargain would be the best place to ask for this kind of help!

I'm just looking for a DVD/Divx player that also has a USB port that I can connect to my TV?

My TV is old so it doesn't have HDMI so it needs to be connectable using the yellow/red/white cables.

Thank you!

  • big w sell a 'Laser' branded one

they had one for $20 in the past, but this appears to be a different model based on the 5.1 blurb

    • It'd be great if the Divx player came with a USB port!

Ask friends/relatives… that sort of thing is something that most people would just throw out, because it has no resale value.

Why not get a converter such as:

    http://www.cablechick.com.au/cables/hdmi-to-component-video-…

    and get a modern device?

    • Your idea is appreciated, but $70 seems a lot for just a converter…?

      • These converters go for far, far, far less on ebay. These exact ones. No need to pay the Australia Tax. I have had no experience with them though, so I can't say how good they are.

  • Could you tell me a bit about modern device?

  • Your replies are appreciated!

Like I said, the TV is old and doesn't have a HDMI connector and it only has the 3 ports that are coloured red, white and yellow.

    • That's composite video and L/R audio. You just need to look for a DVD player with composite output e.g. the Laser one from BigW linked to above has a composite output as well as HDMI.

      • Thanks!

The device also needs to be able to play DVD/Divx and not just DVD…

  • Buying the composite to HDMI converter for $70 seems expensive.

Does anyone think it's worth it to buy it?

    • Nope

      How big is the TV?

  • It's about 80CM.

Like I said, it's an old TV.

  • Why is it so hard to find a Divx player with a USB port?

  • Please let me know if anyone finds a DVD/Divx player that also comes with a USB port!

It takes time to put video files onto a DVD disc.

  • I've been searching everywhere but I haven't found what I'm looking for…

  • Another option is one DVD player and one set top box with the USB port.

  • Thanks, but I've already got a set top box that works perfectly so I don't want another.

  • I just saw this DVD/Divx player: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/B-DGTec-5-1-Inch-DVD-Player-With-…

I'm not worried about the price. I just want to know if it's a decent unit.

    What do people think?

  • Search ebay for DVB-T set top box
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Classic-HD-Digital-DVB-T2-TV-Set-…

These have a USB port that can apparently play MPEG4 video. They also have composite out (as well as HDMI). Should work for DivX, but I'm not sure. You can safely ignore the DVB-T tuner, maybe. At 20-ish dollars delivered, might be worth a go.

Edit: oh, I see you want to play DVD too…

  • Thanks, but I need a device with a DVD player and this is the only one I've got available to me.
