Rupees - Currency Exchange in Sydney

Going to India on back of Virgin Australia flights posted on OzB back in October :)

Anyone know of a currency exchange with decent rates for rupees?

Tried my usual place but apparently they can't sell rupees anymore? Not sure why, thought the currency crisis was over?

Thanks

India got rid of its 500 and 1000 rupee notes in November replacing it with a new 500 and 2000 rupee note to combat black money and terrorism. The lines have been looooooooooong and I'm not sure if the situation has improved as yet. I was there in December and the ATMs either ran out of the new notes or the lines were long enough to deter you from going to it.

I'd highly suggest exchanging prior to going to India. Try UAExchange if it has a physical store in your city, Sydney has a few.

Just returned from India (Delhi)…most ATMs now have cash and I didnt see any issues off late. No lines definitely and most ATMs are dispensing Rs. 500 notes now..

    • I go to India every couple of year , i use 28 Degrees card . Most places now a days accept cards so you don't need to go all cash

You can withdraw money from Citibank ATM's if you have Citibank card , if you use local ATM you will be charged around 200Rs(~4$) .

If you have any relatives or friends you can transfer money to their bank account(you will get better rates) and use their card. There are many free services to transfer money to indian bank accounts from here

  • The legend of Zelda also uses rupees as currency
