How to connect Bose QC35 to my HDTV?

Hi all, just wondering how do I connect my Bose QC35 to my HDTV, LG 55LM7600 (playing PS4 & TV box via HDMI) via bluetooth? I also have a Samsung HK350 connected to my HDTV via optical cable. Cheers!

  • what model of HDTV?

    • LG 55LM7600

  • Firstly I can't see anywhere in the specs that that TV has Bluetooth output (some TVs have bluetooth for remotes/keyboards, but I can't even see that in this case).

Secondly Bluetooth isn't a good technology for TV Sound as there is often some lag between what you see and hear (It's ideal for mobile devices which is why most brands focus on BT). Some TVs do it better than others, but it's something that once I notice it, it's hard to get past it. The BT in those TVs is designed more for a Soundbar directly below the TV, not a speaker/headphone 5 meters away. That distance is what affects the lag most.

So to answer your question, you can get a BT transmitter from ebay and the like, but they will be non-branded and it's pot luck as to how good it will be. The better solution is either Infra-red or Radio frequency headphones which have a station that plugs into the TV and transmits to the relevant headphones

So to answer your question, you can get a BT transmitter from ebay and the like,

this, I looked at a few forums and most lg TV users buy a 3.5mm headphone jack bluetooth adapter

    • The BT in those TVs is designed more for a Soundbar directly below the TV, not a speaker/headphone 5 meters away. That distance is what affects the lag most.

BT uses RF which travels at the speed of light, so the distance won't increase the perceptible latency.

Latency can be caused by the source or by the receiver. If a TV has been designed to transmit BT audio to a sound bar without latency, it would be doing correct and efficient transcoding, so any latency will likely be caused by the receiving device.

Headphones that choose to buffer more data to avoid dropouts will result in longer latency. The QC35 is rather good, latency is very minimal.

The better solution is either Infra-red or Radio frequency headphones which have a station that plugs into the TV and transmits to the relevant headphones

Definitely not IR as it's line of sight… RF headphones are the way to go, but the OP's going to have to spend quite a bit to get a decent-sounding pair, which is a waste as he already has the QC35.

OP, if you're still interested I can test the QC35 with a cheap ebay BT transmitter I have. You're going to need an optical to analog audio converter though, which is probably another ~$20 or so.

  • You will need:
    2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor
3.5mm cable (length should be enough to reach the TV)

If your TV has a 3.5mm output - then all good otherwise 3.5mm to RCA (red and white) adaptor

Even if the TV has bluetooth it won't work with your headphones

    • uh…you do know I prefer to be connected wirelessly yes?

  • So that mean I have disconnect my soundbar while using my headphone then?

  • Having a closer look at the manual, it looks like there is no headphone out on that model. It sounds strange, but it also looks like there's no audio out apart from the optical. This means not only would you need a BT transmitter or RF headphones with optical input (which tend to be more expensive), but you also need to unplug your sound bar every time you use headphones.

    • I wonder if I could connect to my android box/ PS4 directly for sound output?

      • You probably can, but that means you only get sound when using the android/ps4. You won't get sound from the TV.

        • Well I mainly use my TV for tv box anyway, hardly watch any live TV channels

  • Hi guys, gonna revive this topic again, as I still can't how to connect my QC35 to my TV

First, these are the list of things connected to my LG 55LM7600 LED TV:

    1) Android TV box (connected via HDMI1)

    2) Chromecast (connected via HDMI2)

    3) PS4 (connected via HDMI4)

    4) Samsung HW-K550 soundbar (via optical cable)

First, I thought I would just plug in "aux to bluetooth" adapter to the AUX port of the TV, and link the QC25 to the bluetooth adapter, but this TV doesn't have AUX port. So what should I do?

I just need sound from Android TV box and TV itself. PS4 is no issue as the controller has AUX port.

Please help me figuring it out. Thanks!

  • Hi there,

I have a set of QC35s also with a television with no bluetooth output. From the research I have done, something like this is your best option:

    • You can get $10-15 ones on eBay. One thing to watch out for is latency though.
