How old can a fine be before getting notification for it? VIC

Hey All,

I've received a parking fine for near 3 months ago. It's going to be a bit hard to contest given I can't recall whether I did or didn't park then. Is there a sort of window in which they're obliged to give you the heads up?

I do find it suspiciously cheap, it's from the council, and they're charging $31… The police/PSA's normally fine 70+ Not that I'm complaining.
(I now push bike due to these fines and it being impossible to find a park at the station)
As I can't recall whether I was there, is it worth still contesting it?

I guess the council is more lenient with their fines:

Can't find whether the fine can expire though.

  • what is the offence code?

are you sure it is council, not a private company ?

    • Yeah, State Government Vic at the top.
      I don't think we've privatized our government… yet.

      • True, but we have corporatised them.

$31 seems oddly low. Sounds like a private parking fine and they are pretending to be part of the council.

Maybe try ringing the council out and quoting the fine number and see if its legit
