Worth Keeping This Printer?

Hey guys, I've got an old HP Officejet H470 Mobile printer.

Windows 10 says the H470 is working, but when it prints a page the page is blank so I think it needs new ink cartridges.

Is it worth it for me to buy new ink cartridges or should I just buy a new printer?

Here is the link to the printer: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-H470-Mobile…

Thank you!

nah, for most of us, nowadays laser printer is the only printer you need to buy. so much faster and easy on wallet too.
get multifunction for $200-300 more than enough will last for 5-10years

  • Thanks!

How can I choose which printer brand to buy?

I want a printer brand that supports printing from Android/iPhone devices.

  • Depends on how much you are printing. If you don't print a lot, I would say just get some aftermarket cartridges from ebay. You possibly may have to block your printer software from accessing the internet(by setting Windows Firewall rules) before you install the aftermarket cartridges as I found out the last time I had a HP printer that the printer software checks the serial number of the cartridge and gives you an incompatible cartridge error if found to be not genuine.

  • If you value the size/portability of the old printer, and it is otherwise been suitable for you, then a generic cartridge is cheap at $7:

Anything new will have higher printing costs, at least to begin with, as it usually takes some time for the generic ink/toner people to release compatible cartridges. The need to support Android/iOS will also add to the cost (I'm assuming the old printer did not do this).

As for choosing a printer, maybe start here:

  • Wow, I had no idea that HP checked for genuine cartridges!

  • hmm personally i have fuji from aldi but not recommending it - the wifi is crap need to use cable instead. but work wonderfully with windows and android.
and strange, cant print from iphone, but i suspect that is because apple limitation/restriction. not sure. above poster said he could, so maybe my printer is really crap.

brands i recommend, brothers/samsung (especially if you have samsung mobile then this is the obvious and safest choice).
but in general, as long they are around $200 or more i believe they are good.
for me i focus on features (duplex is good feature to have) not on how big the tray is for example or how fast it can print - because i am using printer just occasionally/home user, i dont care if the tray is small, or fraction of second slower than the more expensive printer.

  • It seems better for me to just buy a new printer…?

  • I can't seem to find the price of the ink cartridges for the HP H470.

The other problem I'll have is if I buy new ink cartridges and the HP H470 still doesn't work…

  • Is there anything I can do with the current ink cartridges to try and make them work before I try and buy new ink cartridges?

  • Anyone know?

  • Could someone please help me?
