128GB Micro SD Card Class 10

I treated myself to a Blackvue Dashcam (cheaper than the excess on my car insurance) - trouble is it only comes with 32Gb card.

The installer told me this is only good enough for one hour's worth of recording.

Looking at getting a 128Gb card but Blackvue only recommend their own brand which costs an arm and a leg.

Any recommendations for a alternate brand - apparently Scandisc and Lexar are not recommended.

Thanks for your help!

Samsung Evo's are a good option - 128GB for $70, though apparently the camera only accepts up to 64GB.
Not sure why the installer would say that, as most dashcams I've seen at 1080p use less than 20GB/hour and some as low as 4GB/hour, and if you set it to loop/wipe the oldest footage there shouldn't be a problem with 32GB.

Edit - the Blackvue website even discourages other brands; but I've seen Lexar recommended on a third party site (and GoPro recommends them too) and apparently Samsung voids your warranty?

Only one hour's worth of recording for a 32GB card?? This "salesman" is just wanting to make an extra sale on the memory card!

For Blackvue cameras, at the highest resolution and frame rate (one running FullHD @ 30fps and the other running HD), it'll record just over 4 hours.
Lower resolution settings will get you longer recording time.

If you've got it on the loop setting where it records over the old footage by itself, that should be plenty.

(See "Specifications" tab for a table of how long you can record).

  • Not sure what you did, but yes the salesmen was an idiot, 32GB will give you more than 1hr. I have a Samsung Evo 64GB in my BlackVue DR650-2CH. When recording non-stop on the highest settings, it records for 13hrs before going over old recordings. Your owners manual gives you a guide.

Stay away from Sandisk, Lexar should be fine. What you want is the slowest Class 10 card you can get form a good brand. The faster the card, the more it heats up, and that is what causes the issues. My Samsung Evo is cooking hot when I take it out. When I get a larger one, I will get a slower card.

    • guess he was trying to sell me the card.

I got the unit from elsewhere and they were only installing it so I guess he wanted to make his daily sales :o)

  • I'm just about to buy the Blackvue DR750S-2CH and want to know what micro sd cards people recommend?

    I've heard a load of stories…
"stay away from sandisk… go with samsung evo"
"the samsung evo is too fast it'll cook for sd card and then you'll need to replace them"
"Lexar is a great brand go with them but… "

What gives? I'm probably looking at either the 64gb or 128gb variant depending on the price.
