Nuisance Barking !

Hi guys, I really need advises here as this is getting affected our family's well-being. We are having a problem with the dog's barking next to our bedroom, the new owner next door had put 2 big dogs there to guards the house even though they are hardly home. The house will be knocked out to build house so they think the dogs can be there to keep intruders out. I have talked to the owner twice but they do not care our welfare.
I have formally complaint to council, however they have come back to me that the owner is not available to response and as if they do not want to talk to council (until 3/3), there is nothing council can do about it, they cannot force them to remove the dogs as there is no law in Australia that enables dogs to be removed due to barking.
I really have enough of the noise at night, they let the dogs freely run at the backyard then barking all night and jumping to the door where my bedroom is just right next to it. I am being sick to work (not enough sleeps).
what is my other options to end this matter ? PLLSSS HELP

I have a huge dog in the house behind. I converted my garage into a study room. it backs on to the back fence. I would be in there late at night studying (because i work full time) and I'd mutter something under my breath or turn a page of a book too loudly and the f&%king dog would start barking. then the new neighbours moved in to the house next door. and were always out. and they had a boxer or something. which they never walked or seemed to play with. so every time I stepped out of my back door it would start barking. and then they moved out and the next tenant moved in with a shitty little dachshund that would bark at air. and then after a year they moved out and new tenants moved in whilst I was on holiday in victoria. they left a note in my letter box which said something like "hi, my name is <insert stupid dog name> I'm a puppy and I just moved in next door, etc, etc, barf, barf" and the stupid little shit bag just barks all the time. at nothing.

long story short - i share your pain.

    • If only there was a way you could force the same kind of suffering on those neighbours, like playing a recording of a crying, screaming baby at all hours.

Assuming you wouldn't lose your mind with all that noise combined instead.

Complain, get your neighbours to complain, and write a letter every week until the council does something. In the meantime, use an ultrasonic device that sends out high pitched sounds. It will cost you less than $50.

    I learnt that from here.

can you refer me the one that you bought please ?

    • can you refer me one please ? there are plenty of them on Ebay but none are $50

  • there is nothing council can do about it, they cannot force them to remove the dogs as there is no law in Australia that enables dogs to be removed due to barking.

AFAIK in SA the council will send out an inspector and can remove dogs due to excessive barking.

    • I'm in Vic, they do not enforce them here apparently. This is from my local law officer

My neighbours dogs hate the sprinkler. they used to dig holes at the fence line and make lots of noise at night. I put the sprinkler that turned on for 5mins every hour for a few weeks spraying mainly at the neighbours but also my grass. Pissed the dogs off they found somewhere else to dig holes.

    Otherwise get a shotgun

Your council is crap and doesn't know the law

    • Should I tell them this is the law in Victoria? how would they not know the laws ? I'm confused here

Record the barking, at the highest possible levels, & play it back, cranked up, the entire time they are home. With any luck, they sleep late for their jobs.

Also send this recording to your council.

I am an ardent dog/pet lover & despise the dick-heads who do this.

    So sorry.

    :(

  • What do you mean by they are "hardly home"? Do they live there, or already started to strip off the house to start developing? That'd be your new problem.

We have similar problem with the house diagonal to our back. Since talking to the Owner returned with nothing, I wanted to get all the neighbours together. But do what? Maybe should organise a street party when they are home? Or run a protest parade? I am so sick of this!

    • As far I have seen, there is no one lives there, I saw a lady who claims to be sister in law of the land owner lives there once I came over to talk to her but since then, I hardly see anyone stays there overnight. The dogs are kept behind the garage's gate and keep barking since dawn. Last night, they came home then horned the car a few times in front of the door. These people are unbelievable !!!
