It has been a while since I have been to Fiji so I don't want to recommend any specific accommodation.

In terms of scuba diving, there are plenty of tours leaving the mainland that go out and visit the islands and different dive sites. We did stop by some small islands which are pretty much a dive shop and accommodation, these might be worthwhile looking into if you want to do a lot of diving.

I did some hiking in the Nausori Highlands which were very scenic. There were a few waterfalls and places to swim along the way. I also stopped by a village for a "traditional lunch" which turned out to be a piece of sliced bread and a kraft single. They then did a kava ceremony.

There is a high speed catamaran ferry that services the closer islands off Nadi in a loop. Sort of a hop on hop off thing. A day trip or overnight to an island is good option if you are staying on the mainland. Beachcomber Island (mainly backpackers) is an eyeopener and comes with lunch. They'll take you out to snorkel - but there a quite a few people wanting to do this, so be on one of the first excursions or you'll miss out.

Prepare to slow right down on Fiji time.

    Bula.

    Going alone or with friends?
Went with friends last year and we rented a Yacht for 10 days and cruised around the islands dived, swim, hiked, lazed, jet skied. I recommend this if you have the budget for it. Some very pristine reefs and beaches to visit that no one else goes to.

How many dollarydoos did it cost to rent it for 10 days? Did you have to pay a large deposit too?

$1000 a day split between 6 people. We arranged it whilst we were in Denarau port. We had accomodation for the first 5 days already and our plans were flexible.

  • Thanks for your comments going with the misses - however a sailing boys trip would be a laugh!

If you are staying in Nadi/Denarau renting a car is a good idea. It means you can more easily visit restaurants in town and surrounding beaches, mountains, markets, volcanic mud spas, etc. Tripadvisor was pretty good for restaurant recommendations. Driving is relatively safe and easy there and car rentals are cheap, around $30 per day for a mid-size car.

I am from Fiji. Try going to Savusavu. You can either catch a flight or go via a ship. Its absolutely beautiful.
