Would You Pay for a Club Jetstar Membership?

Just got an email from jetstar asking me to join their club jetstar membership program.

The fee is $39 to sign up and an ongoing fee of $39 per year. In return, members get access to their biggest sale, discounts, exclusive sales etc.

Wondering what are your thoughts on this, would you buy a membership?

I joined club jetstar a couple of years ago and really didn't get any benefit out of it. They do offer discounts on various travel related products but the main reason for joining was the access to the occasional cheaper member-only flights. There weren't that many member-only sales happening while I was a member and the few that did, dind't include any flights from Perth, where I live, so all up it wasn't worth it and I didn't bother renewing.
You're better off subscribing to their travel alerts and snapping up a fare when they come on sale

Yes I had the same experience, early access to their sale flights and not much other benefits. Seemed like no value really.

Still choose to fly Jetstar all the time, the price matching against Tiger is always a winner!

    • Could you by any chance give an example of one of their member only specials from Perth? (I live in Perth as well by the way)

      • As I said, for the 12 months I was a member (4+ years ago), there were no member only discounted tickets made available from Perth. It's possible I may have missed one but unlikely.
I still fly Jetstasr regularly, in Bali at the moment courtesy of one of their "fly back free" sales :)

      • It's too late to join now to access today's sale but for future reference today's sale from Perth is $39 to Adelaide and $49 to east coast cities.

I suspect it's like glorified spam.

And because of your initial 'investment' you will feel more inclined to purchase so that you're not wasting the $39.

    • Now it's $48.

  • members get access to their biggest sale, discounts, exclusive sales etc.

All these things sound like the same thing to me to be honest, which makes $40 a year seem quite steep.

Jetstar flights are typically fairly low domestically and I don't really fly that much, I'd be interested to hear what a frequent flyer would feel. But I'd rather keep that 40 bucks and use it to buy a normal ticket, I'd bet it would offset the price enough for me.

  • Gdday fellow Ozbargainers! They've sweetened the deal by offering a $25 Hotel Voucher if you join. Has anyone booked hotels through them? Are their rates any good compared to say Agoda, Expedia, cheaptickets?

    • you don't need to be a club jetstar member to book hotels but I have always found expedia and agoda to offer better prices

  • It’s now 49.

  • I'm living in Japan at the moment and am planning to come back home in May. when I was looking at flights to Australia, it would have worked out cheaper to buy a club Jetstar membership because they included discounts for luggage and food. But that was probably a temporary offer
