Free camping in Australia - is WikiCamps the best app?

I did a road trip recently and enjoyed going from free camping site to free camping site - it was surprisingly really fun to just sleep in your car or a tent for a few weeks, while getting to see some great places and it all being free (except for damn petrol!) was an awesome bonus

I was using the app WikiCamps Australia to find all the best free places to stay.

Anyway, my free trial is up now so I going to pay for it but wanted to check if there are any alternatives out there that are better?

There is CamperMate as well. I think it covers NZ as well.

  • ive been following http://camp-spots.com for a bit, defiantly no where near as many spots as wikicamps but it is free. Though their facebook group seems a little more helpful https://www.facebook.com/groups/campreviewsaustralia/

  • I, like yourself, had the trial and I did commit to the purchase of wikicamps. Best investment. From what I can tell there's no other app that's anywhere near as comprehensive.

  • Yep it's the best. I used it to travel around Australia. I don't buy many apps but this one I did & no regrets.

  • yep it's one of the very few apps I have paid for, we use it in conjunction with the Camps book http://www.campsaustraliawide.com/ for when you're somewhere with no phone coverage.

  • Helpful. Thanks
