What Happened to PricesEngine?

Anyone knows what happened to PricesEngine? Why is paypal witholding their money?
I just got this email from them:

Dear PricesEngine customers,

We send this email today to inform you our site will be forced to stop operation for a period of time. Due to Paypal keep holding large amount of our fund for some unreasonable reasons. We'll start to strive for our rights via Australian law.

Unfortunately, our site will have to stop operation since Paypal is the only payment method we have at the moment. The actual time of the suspension will depend on how long Paypal will spend to settle this matter.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by us. Our customer service team will work as usual to answer all the queries. Hope we can make PricesEngine back to work soon.

Best regards,
The PricesEngine team

  • Any news on when they will be back up and running?

  • +2

This should be a wake up call to all the people here who cry and moan when paypal is not offered by a store.

  • another week, still no pricesengine… :(

  • Nobody been able to contact them, ask them for an update?

    • I was last in contact with them via email last Friday (13/8) in regards to a warranty claim with an item being sent back

      • thats fantastic news(that they are still looking at warantee) as i don't trust one of the drives i got…

its reporting as healthy via smart but it failed once on the raid…

will wait and see if it occurs again.

  • If they are part of 9289/IDREAM, can't someone just rock up to their Chatswood showroom to ask for explanation?

    • think they are separate companies, addresses are also different on the packages…

      • Well they all come under the same ABN…

      • Isn't it just that 9289 is unit 206 and PricesEngine is unit 207 in the same building?

They're definitely both Ideam Pty Ltd anyway.

Speaking of addresses on packages, one of my PricesEngine orders had a 9289 shipping label underneath the PricesEngine shipping label…I guess they printed out the wrong one by mistake and then stuck a new one over the top.

  • Are they coming back?? or gone for good??

+1. I'm sure this might sound sad to some, but OzBargain has become a little less exciting ever since PricesEngine has been out of action :(

PriceEngine a big let down, heard nothing but stories lately about site being
    down

they proberly just dont have anything to offer

if you bothered to read the story here you'd know that they didn't run out of things to sale, but they have a problem with paypal and their paypal account is currently "locked" so they can't do business. I really do hope Paypal take their heads out of their arses for once and solve this problem soon, it's taken far too long.

bit sus that they don't offer other payment methods don't you think? pay mate, bank deposit, even credit card would be better than nothing…

        on the other hand

if paypal is holding huge amounts of cash as well, it may be difficult for them to continue there business.
(specially if suppliers have been burned)

        • bit sus that they don’t offer other payment methods don’t you think?

Because for some reason some people think that paypal offers them superior protection when it really doesnt.

          • @anthony: well paypal does offer you superior protection - AS A BUYER
As a seller - paypal = sucks ass.

@voter1: I beg to differ, bought some fairings from china for my bike, 250+250 post, bought them cause they looked identical to the ones on my bike now (like oem) when i got them they where totally different, not the ones in the pictures of them at all and totally different to the OEM, so couldn't fit them, (besides being crap quality)
paypal said i would have to pay for return shipping, and would only be compensated the item cost, so id have to pay an extra 250 to get them back, to get 250. so i was out of pocket 500 bux with nothing to show for it, and they would have their fairings back to sell to the next sucker, total out of pocket cost 0.

so yeah papal as a seller = sucks ass.
paypal as a buyer = sucks ass.
i know you cant please everyone, but they cant seem to please ANYONE.

from now on i'm using my credit card, they at least refund the total cost back.

              No it does NOT.
If you pay a seller directly with your credit card you can do a charge back at no cost to you which means you will get your money back.

              • @anthony: A great way to get your paypal account locked.

        • They probably only offered PayPal so that they could make the checkout as simple as possible, and have no manual processing on their end. A simple checkout (click buy button, log into PayPal, click button to confirm the info already filled-in from your PayPal account) encourages people to impulse buy stuff they probably wouldn't buy if they thought about whether they really need it.

They clearly have the capability to offer other payment methods, their other site takes a few different kinds.

@lbft: Bloody works too, I had to on-sell a motherboard I bought off them because it was far beyond my needs. When they had popular items (like hard drives, mobos, psus) they would sell out in two hours so it really had to be a snap decision.

Oh well. I broke even, so all I can really whinge about is the slight hassle of having to use ebay.
