<$500 budget gaming PC

Hi dudes,

Wanting to play some xbox titles like forza 3 and gears 4 on PC.

I am eyeing this build from whirlpool:

$450 ($650) Gaming/Multi-Purpose Config Budget

CPU: Intel Celeron G3900 $49
Mobo: ASRock H110M-HDV $78
RAM: 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 2133MHz $65
HDD: Western Digital WD Blue 1TB $66
GPU: AMD R7 360 $119
Case+PSU: Thermaltake Core H13/H15 w/ 450W PSU $89
ODD: (None) (You can install Windows using a USB drive)

Will it get the job done? Not too fussed about turning down graphics.

Cheers,

  • Find a PC on the side of the road - add a $500 gpu, or upgrade its cpu and add a $300 gpu.

    • Then cry because said pc was faulty or damaged and now your $500 gpu is too.. Thanks Obama

Dude if you wanna play xbox one games, buy an xbox one!

  • Probably best to wait for the Ryzen APUs.

    • Not really when plenty of good intel budget systems are out there
Ryzen is bloody expensive just for a processor
Intel certainly has that market down pat

The ryzen's we see now are high end parts. Meant for the enthusiast who want the kickass stuff

The Ryzens for the poor and tightasses have not been released yet.

Still, my G4400 is pretty capable and I can play Dirt 3 with a crappy HD6850 at 60fps 1080p no issues. Overwatch is strangely laggy though.

Anyway on ebay used desktops with i7-3770's are $300 bucks and Ivv Bridge Core i5 for $250, if you can buy those and trick it out with a better power supply and graphics card you have a cheap gaming system enough to beat an Xbox.

For that kind of money I would be looking at second hand options especially with Ryzen hitting the streets people will be upgrading their old rigs. Don't dismiss gen 2/3/4 intel i5/i7 cpus as these are still in the ball park with processing power with the tradeoff being higher (TDP) power consumption. I recently put together a light gaming rig for a mate of mine. It consisted of a secondhand HP business desktop ($180) (i5-2500, 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM, 400w PSU) Then I added a GTX 1050ti ($220) So for a total of $400 you have a 1080p gaming rig able to play AAA titles at 60FPS. You could lower the price by another $100 if you swap out the 1050ti for a 750ti. The only caveats you have to be aware of if you buy business desktop/workstation make sure it have a PCIE slot and enough room for your GPU. Also you are limited to 75w GPUs as the standard PSUs don't have any extra 6/8pin PCIE power cables. You could upgrade the standard PSU which then opens you up to other more powerful GPU options (RX470/480, GTX1060 etc….etc..)

    • Thanks dude.

      Will definitely look into this.
