So, EB Games are now selling gaming PCs.

I discovered that EB Games are now selling gaming PCs for those who: have too much dough, are in a mid-life crisis, want their carrots or a combination of the three. Here are the two they are selling (detailed description in the links):

A $1984 custom-built tower gets you this:

  • Intel Core i5-7500 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • Nvidia GTX 1060 Graphics Card
  • 16 GB Vengeance Blue LED Corsair DDR4 RAM
  • 240GB Solid State Hard Drive + 2 TB Hard Disk Drive
  • 802.11ac Wifi Card
  • Windows 10 Home (pre-installed)

A $1649 Origin (brand) laptop gets you this:

  • Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • Nvidia GTX 970M 4GB Video Gard
  • 16 GB DDR4 RAM
  • 240GB Solid State Hard Drive + 1 TB Hard Disk Drive
  • Killer Doubleshot Pro Wifi Card
  • Windows 10 Pro (pre-installed)
  • VR Ready - NVidia endorsed VR Ready Laptop.

It'll be interesting to see how the sales and support of these pan out in the next few months.

  • No mention of PSU. Interesting…

  • I built a i5 GTX 1070 system for that much (2 grand). And that included half the cost of a Acer X34 monitor so I could've had a GTX 1080 and a few hundos left.

  • +1

Pretty overpriced and probably cheaper to buy direct from your reseller and have them build it locally
Of course the carrots is the benefit to the buyer if you are that way inclined

The laptop is last gen hardware, you can get a GTX1060 laptop for just under 2k which would be better than the EON unit which I suspect is refurbished because of the wording, may not include original packaging, yet say "brand new" on the site

  • Hah, was thinking about posting this on the forums….but then thought nahh….better not have another one those "threads"…….hahahahaha I'll let someone else do it….and what have we got? Someone else posted it…..heeh…

I bet they're eventually get to the point where they're also selling parts as well! …well seeing how they used to be an electronic store that used to sell various parts, it would make sense to go back there but instead of those parts, computer parts! Or maybe a bit of both!

They might also be selling parts for consoles, whereby if you know the ins and outs of them, you can just buy the part of them and fix up the console yourself!

They might even turn into a full blown parts store!

    • better not have another one those "threads"

Well, good thing I posted on a Saturday morning.

They might even turn into a full blown parts store!

      So, MSY?

      • Yeah…they could be the next MSY, or PC Case Gear….or Austin Computers, or NetPlus MicroComputers…or MCG Tech (not sure if this guy's still alive) or PLE Computers……. or Mwave……and any others that I've not heard of or and have bought from that are legit… :P

Yes all that, whilst also selling the usual like games, loot, books and stuff, as they do now(currently no computer parts store does this that I am aware of)!

  • God i hope not lots of peoplw already think pc gaming is 2grand plus to start off inmagine if eb games starts selled rx 480 for 600 or gtx 1080s for 1500 like how they sell games for rip off prices or mice and keyboarda for $50 over any other store.

    • Ahahaha - they probably will and confuse the lesser computer tech savvy people into thinking a gaming rig will cost upwards of 3k(which is somewhat true if you're going for the top of the line stuff and everything and want to squeeze out as much performance as you can out of a rig, regardless of how much you need to spend for it)….. :P

"Awh, this rig costs 4k, it must be the best gaming PC they have for offer! I better fork them the 4k so I can play some games with it!"

  • You forgot the kids with mums that have no idea and hold a credit card.

  • I skimmed past the post, went past "Origin laptop" which piqued my interest, went back to price, went back to CPU …… what. No QM? Desktop CPU?

Correct, i7 6700 is the locked multiplier desktop chip from 2015. Checked Origin website, confirmed, that laptop model carries full desktop-class CPU's.

    So to clarify… that $2K desktop is 4 cores, 4 threads @ 3.4GHz… While the $1700 LAPTOP is 4 cores, 8 threads @ 3.4GHz. For comparison, the MacBook Pro 15 inch carriers one generation newer mobile-class 2.6GHz 8-thread chip @ 2.6GHz.

Then I tried to find pricing on the laptop, but since it's 1-1.5yr old stock I didn't find it quickly, however the model 1yr newer than the one listed sells for $3400:https://www.mwave.com.au/product/origin-eon15xelite-156-gaming-notebook-i7-16gb-128gb1tb-gtx1060-win10-ab88277?utm_source=getprice&utm_medium=cpc

..and that's with 128GB SSD vs 240GB at EB Games..

Long story short, that laptop is actually a BEAST, and even being 1-2yrs old presents insane value to someone needing a powerful CPU desktop and laptop.
