8 Core Amd FX or Core i7 Swap?

I recently found a pc with an 8 core AMD fx and with 16gb of ram at the dump for $3. (see previous post)
I put in a Samsung sad 2x 1tb seagate hdds and an r7 250.

Long story short, I got a PC from an auction for $10 with a core i3. It's upgradable to a 2nd or 3rd gen i7. It has a small format mobo. Only 2 slots ram

Which leaves me with the following questions.

Should I swap my mobo from and and use the intel one and put in an i7?
What i7 should I put in?
Does 16gb ram really matter? Would I get by with 8 and an i7 or should I buy 2x 8gb sticks to put in mobo.

I use my pc for video audio and photo editing. Not a big gamer.

You're thoughts are much appreciated 😀

    Keep the AMD box

  • Which i7 you put in is determined by the type of CPU socket that the motherboard has. eg LGA 2011

Sometimes the socket type will be printed on the motherboard on or near the CPU socket or you can find this out by googling the motherboard model or as a last resort inspecting/counting the socket features and matching it.

  • more ram is always good for video editing.

  • well you can go to Geekbench and compare scores. The last time you got a score of

    Single-Core Score 2428
    Multi-Core Score 8272

If the new CPU you want to buy has two times the score, then it's probably worth upgrading, if not, the processor you're still using is still quite competent (considering only paid $3 dollars for it)

An i7 3770 can give you double the performance with a score of

    Single 4000 / Multi 14000

but they sell for around $180~200 used.
