Recommend FTTP NBN for unit @ Blacktown

Currently with TPG and They call me every week reminding me to move to their 18month NBN contract (from ADSL2+). Giving a deadline by April.

Now that i dont want to get stuck with their contract if i am not happy with their NBN performance, what are my options? (My neighbours NBN performance got worse from his previous ADSL and had to upgrade to next tier for decent performance.

Looking for Unlimited, at least 25MB/s one.
What router would you recommend for FTTP. I currently use TPLink D7 which i am happy with. Can i still use the same in router mode and disable modem. Forked out $170 for D7, will i have to buy another router?

Please be gentle, too sensitive i am ;)

  • i dont think FTTP exists in units.
    you probably have FTTB

it does in some actually, we have FTTP NBN units in brisbane

  • Go with a RSP that doesn't lock you in a contract. Consider SkyMesh or AussieBB.

    • +1 Skymesh. I have FTTP with them and it works great.

  • Have you been told your premises is eligible for FTTP?
With NBN, you get what they decide, unless you apply (at significant cost) to have another technology installed to your premises - and you can only do that after you're already on the NBN.
From the sounds of your neighbours' experience, you will probably get HFC which is a much less attractive proposition.

      This is what i got

We are pleased to inform you that we have been advised by NBN Co. that your area is now ready for NBN service with Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) Technology .The government will decommission the copper wire in the area on the 14th of April, 2017. Once that happen, your ADSL service will be discontinued.
As your internet provider, we are mandated by the government to upgrade your current ADSL service to Fibre Optic connection that is more reliable and faster than ADSL.
As a valued customer of TPG, we don't want your service be disconnected once government started digging out the copper lines on your area to make way for fibre optic cables.

We need to migrate your current ADSL service to fibre optic service to avoid any inconvenience in your end when the copper wires on your area have been decommissioned. When the copper wires are decommissioned your phone and Internet will no longer work. To solve this,we need to upgrade your plan to NBN FTTP (Fibre To The Premise) which uses Fiber Optic cable.

We can provide you the NBN Service at the same amount that you're paying for your ADSL service.

      • Lucky you. I got HFC :( . I'm surprised by your neighbour's experience if they were on Fibre
