Second-Hand Book Online Website?

Hi all OzBargainers!

It’s a new semester for uni and I’m looking for second-hand uni textbooks as the new ones are really expensive. So just wondering, does anyone here knows what websites are there for me to find sellers of second-hand textbooks? I already know one, which is www.textbookexchange.com.au. Any others?

Btw, I’m looking for this book,

“Zeithaml, V. A., Bitner, M. J.,& Gremler, D. D. (2009). Services marketing: Integrating customer focus across the firm (5th Ed.). Boston: McGraw-Hill/ Irwin”

So if anyone here happens to have this book and willing to sell, please let me know.

Thanks.

  • I don't know of any second hand book sites but this site is good for new book price comparison. www.booko.com.au

    • It is indeed a good website, but cant find any cheap books there. Thanks! :)

  • http://www.betterworldbooks.com is a good place for second hand books, but I don't know if you'll find your textbook there.

    • I tried searching for my book, but cant find any. lol.. thanks for helping! :)

  • My uni used to have a secondhand book store but finding the correct edition was always hard because the lecturers (usually the authors of the textbook!) always usually insist you get the current edition because they have made drastic changes (not).

If you are in Melbourne there is also a store that sells secondhand texts on Swanston Street called Academic and General. But they only seem to have the 4th ed of the one you want online. It's not a cheapie. :(

Here's the cheapest new version (thathave stock) according to Booko:
    http://www.coop-bookshop.com.au/bookshop/show/9780073380933

    • Thanks for helping. Did have a look myself and yeah, they only have 4th edn. My uni does have the Coop bookshop, and because of the price, was trying to look for 2nd hand if possible. :) appreciate ur help!

      • I know the feeling mate I recently had to buy books for my course and was impossible to find decent prices anywhere.

Anyway turns out the bookshop at my uni have a thing whereby they sell returned books in pretty much brand new condition for about half the price of the original. Maybe you can check if your uni book store does the same.

Another option would be to buy the ebook version if it's available then print it out at office works or something.

        Good Luck.

  • AbeBooks is always worth a look. For the book you are after $1US + $9.50US delivery here

  • The university I work at has an online marketplace section where people try to sell second hand books (as well as furniture, cars and other things). Maybe your university has something similar? There always also seem to be plenty of paper advertisements up for second hand books around the campus as well.

When I used to work at the bookstore at TAFE we would also sell second hand books, but only a selected number (so as not to impact on sales of new books). If we had already taken our quota we used to tell people to stand around the bookshop for a bit to try to sell their book outside.

    • Thanks for ur help. Yeah we have that, and its pretty new.. So not many people are advertising them. Plus not many people put up advertisements on notice boards.

  • I saved heaps by going with an earlier edition. My course had a prescribed text which asked for the 5th edition. These babes range from $240 - $1100. I asked my course advisor if i really had to get the latest version and i was told don't bother. I bought the 4th edition for $20 delivered near new condition from better world books. What a saving. And i am not being disadvantaged at all.

    • But for my case, the lecturer did insist on latest edition.. He said because the case study are different. :)

  • I just started looking for my analytical chemistry and spectroscopy textbooks. The latest edition first showed up at $230 plus shipping, though I eventually found it for sale on Ebay for $60. It'll be a week or so coming from Malaysia, but well worth the wait.

    • tried looking on ebay, but none of my books are sold there. lol..

  • Anyway, I managed to get 2 of the 3 required textbooks for this semester. All through textbookexchange.com.au… Its a pretty good website, except that its based more on trust. Tried to find using all the above mentioned methods/websites, but no luck.. :(

    Thanks for everyone's help!

If anyone still has any suggestion, feel free to share with me here, there's always a chance to buy in the future. :)

  • I found www.textbooksnstuff.com.au, I think it's quite new, but there's a few good books on there and it's free if you wanted to sell any.

  • Fishpond has it new for $74.95 and with their 10% off sale now and free delivery, could work out to be cheapest option. And if you can find on Amazon cheaper with shipping, they have one of those lowest prices guarantee.

  • Bugger! I actually had this book, although it was the previous edition. Put it up a couple of times on eBay. No one bid for it at $0.99, so I dropped it off at my local Vinnies just a couple of months ago.
