Has Anyone Flown Malindo Air? if So, What Are They Like?

Hi All,

I was doing a search last night on skyscanner and i want that flight for cheap return flights from Brisbane to Denpasar when I noticed there is a new direct route commencing this year with Malindo Air. It looks like the flights include a meal and baggage and are very competitive in price ie - approx 350 rtn.

I did a little research on the company and it looks like a Malaysian based Airline.

So I guess I just want to know if anyone has flown with Malindo Air before and if you would recommend them.

  • I have flown Malindo Air a few times. Malindo Air is owned by Lion Air, which is a budget airline that operates in the region. Malindo Air is Lion Air's premium offering. My experience is that it sits in between budget airlines in the region and the likes of other full service airlines like Singapore Air, Qantas, Emirates etc. It's not terrible, I would fly with them again.

  • They're good. I fly with them across SE Asia a fair bit.

In December went from Kuala Lumpur to Penang and back, last weekend I took them from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching and back. Good.

  • I recommend it, even more leg room than Scoot. When I flew with them, there was barely any people on the flight, so I got a whole row and made a pillow fort. My own semi business class ;) Food is average or below, but they have the entertainment units on the front headrest and provide headphones. The baggage allowance for that price is pretty super imo.

I flew with Malindo from Bangkok -> KL. Then KL -> Perth. Both had the spacious seats flights. BUT my parents took a Malindo flight from Chiang Mai -> KL and said the plane was super small seats etc, so fair guess is that the minor routes have the budgo seat planes.

  • Thanks a lot guys it sounds like a goer and at that price I can't afford not to go 😉

  • Or Jetstar wiil price beat, just did that for a booking next month although they will only include 20kg baggage.

    • Yeah but then you'd be flying on Jetstar instead of Malindo.

      • True but could be a bit less scary and at a lower price. Btw they only fly to Perth and Brisbane.
