I just received an email from ANZ advertising their ANZ points mall, where you can get up to 10 points per dollar if you click to certain sellers through that site (similar to cash rewards)
My question: is it worth to make purchases through this ?? Or is cashrewards/any cashback system still superior ?
What you have to do is ascribe a value to the points you are given via the points mall versus the cashback offered. One easy example - ebay cashback is sitting at around 1.25-1.3 cents in the dollar of late, however via velocity's shopping portal they give 2 points per dollar. At 1c a point, I choose velocity over cashrewards for Ebay.
As for ANZ points mall, the only place I recently found any value was in purchasing gift cards through Dan Murphys (7 points, where no reward was offered via cashrewards - that said, haven't checked if my ANZ points have come thru from that). I think in a majority of cases cashback has won for me, but you need to check which retailer delivers best through which portal for you.
