Velocity Miles - Upgrading to Business class - Status Credit?

Hello…

I have around 300,000 Velocity points accumulated thru new credit applications, credit card usage and transfer from Kris flyer. I would like to use it upgrade by economy class ticket to business class for a trip from Australia to US.

IS there a need to have enough status credit to get this upgrade or is points alone will do ?

if so what is the process involved. Please clarify. thanks

G

Are you a Velocity member and if so, what status level are you? You have to be either Gold or Platinum status to be able to upgrade with points on long-haul flights:

    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Redeem/FlightU…

    International Long Haul Flights

Platinum and Gold Velocity members booked on a Freedom, Premium Saver or Premium fare can use Points to request an upgrade to Premium Economy or Business Class on International Long Haul flights to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number.

  • I also hit a snag - I want to upgrade some economy seats to LAX to premium economy and I've got the FF points but not the status level. I don't fly enough to earn and maintain any higher than the base level although I earn decent FF points through other means. Does this mean I simply can't upgrade these sorts of flights, ever? :( Or is there another way to earn status credit?
