New Laptop Suggestion? ($2k Budget)

Looking to replace my ageing HP laptop, here are my requirements:

  1. GFX - mainly for light video editing/encoding & PS
  2. CPU - 7th Gen Kaby Lake
  3. USB C with Thunderbolt connection looking at external GFX down the years. I know there has been discussion in another thread about if it's worth the price but I think 1 or 2 years down the track the enclosure so be more reasonable (fingers crossed)
  4. Prefer 14" screen size or bigger and not weigh a tonne
  5. Relatively good battery life.
  6. Budget around $2k

I've looked at Asus Zenbook 3 series but none of them seem to have all my requirements- either have GFX but no thunderbolt connections or vice versa.

Thanks fellow OzBargainers !

  • Razer Blade Stealth or Razer Blade?

  • Been discussing this a lot with a friend recently and ended up opting to wait for the new Lenovo Yoga to be released (soon).

    • +1

External graphics aren't too unreasonable. I have an enclosure on back-order from here (note that's USD) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1303819-REG/akitio_ak…

      • That's cool, didn't realise there are cheaper options out there. This is what I had in mind ASUS ROG XG Station 2 retailing about $900+ (price excludes the actual GFX). This dock/enclosure will have my monitor, mouse & KB all hooked up and when I get home I simply plug in the Thunderbolt connection and will be able to play graphics intense games on the monitor.

  • MSI 14" GS43VR Phantom Pro Notebook

    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad-Core
    16GB of DDR4 RAM | 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD
    14" 1920 x 1080 IPS Display
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB GDDR5)
    SDXC Media Card Reader
    802.11ac Wi-Fi | Bluetooth 4.1
    USB 3.0 | HDMI | Mini DP | Thunderbolt 3
    Windows 10 Home (64-Bit)

If you can live with Skylake then I would have suggested the Asus ZenBook Pro

    • Unfortunately not going to be under $2k when you add in GST & custom.

    • Been reading a lot of reviews about Kabylake and seems like 7th gen makes a quite a difference in terms of extending battery life so guess makes more sense to invest into Kabylake.

Closest thing I've found is new HP Spectre 360 retailing $1500 USD - https://www.cnet.com/products/hp-spectre-x360-15-inch-2017/r…. Some reason Aussie HP doesn't seem to have models with GFX :/

  • If it was me: I'd buy a used Lenuvo X1 Carbon Ultrabook ($200) and spend the remainder on a powerful desktop PC.

    Option 2: Xiamoi MiBook Air.

    Option 3: Macbook
