AVOID CDWOW!!

Be really careful! I ordered my Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the 3rd of July 2010 for $61.16. I received it on the 19th July 2010. It looks completely fake and its in Spanish.

They state items will be received 7-10 days after despatch from the warehouse for Australia. It took 16 days! Not too happy about that since it was meant to be a birthday present for someone on the 6th of July (i expected the present to be late, but not that late).

My second and BIGGEST issue is, the game looks completely fake. It looks different to the picture on the website and the blurb on the back is in Spanish or some other language. Only some parts are in English. The game does not state whether it is PAL or NTSC anywhere. The official “Nintendo Seal of quality” is also different and fake looking. The seal on the Super Mario Galaxy 2 is oval shaped and states “Official Nintendo Seal” compared to every other Wii games I have where it is a perfect circle and states “Official Nintendo seal of quality”. Another problem is the game states its “For sale, rental and use only in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Latin America”.

Anyways, they made me return the game with their reply paid address stamp.. It arrived there 2 weeks after i sent it to Victoria from Sydney and now they tell me they have 'exhausted stock'. I'm so angry as this was meant to be a gift about a month ago. So i ended up getting a refund.

I've since bought from Target for a few extra dollars more (well worth not waiting and knowing what you'll get). CDWOW falsely advertised the game as PAL and their front cover of the game was even different to the one they sent out to me.

The one i received in the mail from CDWOW looks like this: http://www.target.com/Super-Mario-Ga.../dp/B002BSA388

The one on their website looks like this: http://www.cdwow.com.au/games/super-mario-galaxy-2-wii/dp/87…

And the one i bought from Target looks like this: http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/ninten...ource=homepage

Anyways, i thought i would just put this out there.. as i will NEVER be using CDWOW again! I have also read of someone else having the same issue. Its simply not good enough. Even their website had a review on there from someone in Australia saying the packaging was "robust and the dvd will come in handy". CDWOW told me the game does not come with a dvd.. and when the game arrived, it was in a measily bit of plastic.. nothing protecting the game at all. The one i bought from Target did come with a dvd afterall.. well worth the couple of extra bux.

Anyone else have a horror story from CDWOW?

  • You're not the only that got stung from CDwow… I preordered a copy of Starcraft II from CDwow from March.

Received the game in late July… turns out the copy was an European (UK) version and not the SEA (Asia / Australian) version. I sent an angry letter to Customer service and complained that the game was region locked to the UK, and they replied with an apology letter and asked me to return the game for either a refund or replacement.

Returned the game using their returns form and put down reason for returns as "did not mention game was a UK version" and also a printout of the product page itself, which made no mention of EU or UK in the description.

It's now been 2 weeks and I've yet to receive a refund or a replacement copy.

  • I signed up with them in order to buy something they advertised at a good price, but they cancelled the order 8 days later stating they didn't have it in stock! In other words, they are using low prices to scam people into signing up, with no intention of actually providing the product they advertise.

  • +1

Its an import, not a fake. Also it clearly states that the item will DISPATCH within 7-10 days, not be received by you then

  • Even if it was an import, it was falsely advertised at the time. Whether it was a mistake or not, its really not good enough. I have seen someone else had exactly the same experience as me elsewhere. Except, they actually took the game out of the wrapper to play it without realising it was an NTSC version and not PAL. CDWOW werent going to accept the game back as it had been taken out of its wrapper. So this person threatened with the ACCC and CDWOW accepted the game back as a 'goodwill gesture'. If CDWOW werent threatened, they wouldnt have accepted the game back.. even though it was CDWOW's own mistake.

Actually, when i dealt with them i got an email from them stating:

"You will receive an email notification confirming when each item has been despatched from our warehouse. Our standard delivery times are:

UK: 5 to 7 days (Royal Mail First Class Post)
Germany, Austria and Switzerland: 4 to 6 days
Other EU: 6 to 8 days
Hong Kong and Asia: 5 to 7 days
US: 7 to 10 days (USPS)
Australia and New Zealand: 7 to 10 days
Rest of the World: 7 to 10 days (Priority World Post)"

Hence i should have received it in 7-10 days, but i didnt.

  • I preordered the God Of War Trilogy from CDWOW for $80.71 which was an absolute steal, seeing that God Of War 3 would cost that much alone (if not more in some stores).

Unfortunately CDWOW obviously realized that this was too good to be true, and a couple of months later when the game was due for release, they sent me an email saying "there were delays in stock". This was just a cover up for their pricing bungle/bait price.

So in the end, after waiting several weeks to get my refund, I just went out and bought God Of War 3 from Big W for about $70 from memory. I would not recommend CDWOW to anyone!

  • Ditto Morini's comment - I had the same experience. Ordered a game, got notified about a week later that they didn't have it and were cancelling the order…
