Telstra Plan Offerings advice needed.

Hi all,

Just wondering if people can give me some advice.

I am currently with Telstra on a BYO $60p/m unlimited calls and texts plus 10GB
I was considering a swap to Optus using the Unidays offer but would like to keep Telstra as I have internet with Telstra and the service is generally better where I live.
I rarely go over the 10GB but often get very close

I was offered the following;

$40 - 10gb $1000 calls and unlimited texts (student plan)
$50 - 12GB and $1000 calls (equals roughly 16 hours talk time per month) unlimited texts
$60 - 17GB and Unlimited calls and texts

All plans include 6 months apple music

Best advice would be appreciated.

EDIT** was offered the BYO L $50 p/m for 15gb
I accepted this deal.

  • What advice are you looking for?
$40 for 10GB if you don't go over normally.

  • Are these plans good value?

    • Optus plan are better value but their 4g coverage is not as good as Telstra. So check coverage in your area.

  • How did you get offered the byo L for $50p/m for 15G?
    Just through online chat?

    • I went into Telstra Live Chat - Selected the disconnections option.
I was out of contract and pretty much asked them straight up if they could match the Optus Deals. They offered me 17GB for $60 which I agreed to but then the guy said "but wait theres more" and offered the $20 discount bringing the BYO L down to $50 and giving me the 15gb.

  • Unless you need Telstras better coverage, I would have gone with the Optus friends and family deal:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/294679

    12gb a month for $30 or 15gb a month for $41.25.

Telstra is expensive and seems to have many more outages.

      Correction

Telstra is expensive and seems to have many more outages

      written as

Telstra costs more and seems to have more outages recently

would probably be a more accurate statement

Thanks to this post I went into the online chat and did the same thing. Went in through the disconnections tab, and said if you cant beat this deal im leaving. In the end after a while they gave me the online $50 5gb + 3 gb deal with $10 discount and bonus 2 gb. So the package is $40 for 10gb and $1000 calls monthly

Next day I go online again and get the same deal for my wife except they could only do 8gb. Now our shared data is 18gb (9gb each), $80 total a month and $1000 calls each on BYO. Also chucked in 6 month apple music trial for both mobiles. Ended up with a much better setup by the end of it. The online chat is deff the way to go when negotiating with telstra

  • I didn't think telstra did data pooling on personal plans? (I'm on optus and haven't looked at telstra in a while). I'd be asking the same as you got I think for wife and me.

  • Do you know any ways to get an eligible UniDays .edu address?
Unfortunately I have lost access to my university email.
There is the free UniTas course but they don't send it out until 2 weeks before semester starts.
