ALDI Wines and Beers - Recommendations?

Ok, so it might not be the connoisseur's choice, but there has to be a couple value-for-money gems on the shelf?

Any red or white your go to at ALDI?
Any of those mock-up beers taste anything like the original?

  • I really like the Rivet beer. blue cartons of 24 cans for ~$25. brewed in Vietnam. a very simple lager. nothing pretentious. great to drink cold and a hot day.

    • I'll look out for it. On a scale of water-to-peroni where would it sit?

      • +1

        75%-85% leaning toward peroni.

similar to peroni as in it being a "light" flavoured beer (not as in: "low alcohol light" - just not a HEAVY LAGER)

        • Sounds great! Thanks

        • @chriise: i had my brother buy a slab. he likes to drink furphy, brunswick bitter, hop thief, asahi (japan brewed only). he tried the rivet and at first was like "what's this sh!t". then after a few he was like "I understand it, quite reasonable".

  • The one that costs the best per litre.

    • Bottom shelf wine was ~$3

The James Boags copy is OK if you like Boags.
The Stella copy is OK too.
Neither of the real things are among my favourites, but I'll take the saving rather than pay for the brandname if there is nothing better on sale.

I'd give a thumbs up to the Boags copy too - tastes pretty similar to the real thing.

I also don't mind the Boags copy.

In the wine section, I'm a big fan of "The Pond" Cab Sav.

        • Have picked up The Pond whites and they weren't too bad. I'll try the reds. thanks

      • Hey Man, ages ago I was going to get the Boardman MTB Team 29er deal you posted (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/234758) but missed out, I don't know a lot about bikes and it seems you do, would you know of any deal of a bike with similar specs that would be worth picking up as of now? I couldn't PM you "raisinberry777 does not accept new private conversations." Would really appreciate some help :<

South Point Rose is decent and easy drinking. The South Point Pinot Grigio is actually good and excellent value for money. South Point Sav Blanc is ok. Haven't found a good red that they do cheap.

    • Not a rose fan, but South Point for white and The Pond for red will give me a starting point :)

  • Another vote for the Boags copy $31.99
It's is a bargain compared to full priced anything such as VB, New, Boags, etc.

I've also tried the Rivets for $25, not a fan.
    Rivet's V's Boag's Copy = Hammer n Tongs V's Boags IMO

For the extra 6 bucks, it's a must for me.
But it's all personal taste I guess :P

  • Had the Renburg Apple cider the other night, absolutely delicious. The strawberry and lime tastes like shit and it's really fizzy as well so give that a miss.
