Has Anyone Had Difficulty Obtaining Exchanges/Refund When Someone Has Passed Away?

I bought a groupon for a relative and I to use for his birthday but he passed away from unforeseen circumstances in last month. I explained to them that I'm not up for using it at this time. I also understand that the voucher stated no refund for change of mind so I asked if they could make an exception for credit instead as it's an extenuating circumstance. This is response I got:

Hi bettina44,

Good day!

I do apologize for this situation. However I would like to inform you that if there is clause stating "
Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us No refunds for change of mind we can not process the refund for you.
I ask for forgiveness for this. However I can not process any mode of refund for this purchase. If I had an option sure I would have posted that to you.
If there’s anything else I can help you with in the meantime, please let me know. I would be more than happy to help you

Regards,

XXX

I now feel sick. Not because of the money but the response. Seriously good day? Thanks Groupon.

  • PM the Groupon Rep, or push their Customer Service. I'm sure there's exceptions to the rule, especially given you're happy to get credit.

    What was the purchase for?

  • I'm surprised you didn't like the 'good day' part. I can't stand it when helpdesk staff ask if there is anything more they can help with if they didn't help in the first place :p I can understand how they might need to book services etc and can't offer a refund, but they haven't helped you by saying no.

Regardless of groupon's response - did you already already give the groupon on the deceased? Not sure you should be asking for a refund…

You can always try to sell the groupon in the classifieds/gumtree.

    • no i haven't it was meant to be a surprise on the day.

Leave it as a gift at the funeral? Maybe they'll appreciate the thought…

That's odd because my friend's Groupon voucher expired and she called them up and got a full refund. Try calling and I'm sure they'll be more responsive.

  • You'll defeintinly be able to exchange for groupon credit. I've exchanged it before because 'there wasn't any avaiable dates left that i was also available for' and there wasn't much of a hassle.

I also called up as poster above me did.

  • I am sure u will be able to get a refund. Send a supporting doc such as death cert.

  • I've been able to get a credit for Groupon (not refund), as my voucher expired before I could use it, I had unplanned travel for work.

  • If Groupon won't change its mind, consider selling it or giving it to someone who would enjoy a day at the wet N wild.

Guys just an update, I eventually got a refund. It was a painful process but at least the second rep I dealt with was polite and professional.
