Soldering Station

Hey guys, I am after a half decent soldering iron with variable temperature that will get used maybe once a month. Should i cheap out and buy one of these for $27

or spend a bit extra for something that gets hotter and has a digital screen?

    It looks ok to me. I have this one which I bought for $40 last year and it has served me well.

    I wouldmt worry about the temp, as long it is hot enough. you normally would only need 400 degrees max. The main thing i would care about is the tip is thin and easy to use.

    I have a similar hako rip-off, and it works fine. But I do suggest you get a selection of tips - the thin needle tip that comes with it isn't all that great, especially if you're wanting to look at heavier gauge stuff.

    Huako, hahaha. But cheap, so I'm tempted too, my old one really needs to be retired.

    I have two of these, and they are good as my Weller station.

    Buy lots of tips on-line, especially the heavier ones.
