Swaps - Word Game for Android - FREE $0 for 24 Hours

Edit: Thanks everyone, it's all over. I really enjoyed reading your compliments and suggestions. I wish I had done this sooner :) Thanks for the support Ozbargain.

My Android game Swaps is free for 24 hours - its a fun and challenging little word game I made out of my love for word games. Hope you enjoy.

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/swaps.game/

Description:
Swaps is a challenging word game where you must construct words from a set of random letters, in order to beat the set bar and progress to the next level. The end goal is to beat your personal best high score (the highest bar you've reached).

The letters you're given are chosen at random and each have their own points based on the rarity of the letters. If you don't like a letter, you can "swap" it for another one a certain amount of times. The bar you must beat begins low but builds progressively, and doing well in earlier rounds helps you later in the game.

        No worries.
Will spread the word once it goes back to being a paid app. Hope it helps mate.

I love the clapping sound every time I get a word right. Makes me feel smart. Cheers for the freebie. Good luck with the app.

Haha thanks. Clapping is my own and a few friends I had over at the time lol.

    May I suggest a feature:

As well as dragging the letters, can you make them go into place upon being tapped? It's quite annoying having to constantly drag them around.

    Thanks for the app.

    • Thanks man yeah thats a common request. The toolset I used starts bugging out when you give a letter both a drag and a tap property and so I've tried but its been disastrous. I know its a cop out to blame the toolset but I 100% blame the toolset. Ill keep at it though thanks for the suggestion.

    • Just reporting back to let you know I actually figured it out. The ability to tap the letters into place will be in the next update. Enjoy.

Why does it need wifi access?

    • It doesn't. Its a completely offline game. The toolset I used to create it annoyingly asks for the access even though it doesn't access the network at all. I cant figure out how to stop it from asking. The only permissions the game actually needs is write to memory as it stores your last position for when you close the app.

    And "peizo" is a word, grr… ;-)

    • If its in Scrabble its in Swaps :)

    • +1

I think piezo is a word, it means squeeze?. It's often misspelled as peizo.

      • +1

Nah - that was my first thought, that I might have it wrong. So I tried both ways. Neither must be included.

        • +1

The correct spelling is piezo and ill add it to the dictionary. Not sure why it wasnt there.

Thanks for making the app free. Any plans for an iOS version?

    • I often get asked this :) I would like to, it would require borrowing my wife's mac because you cant create iOS apps on windows, annoyingly. If the app gets bigger Ill take the plunge.

Thanks OP, it's a good game. Best of luck

    • Thank you :)

Does it go past 6 letters? Cheers

    • No, unless you use the Qu tile to make a word (with all the tiles) and technically you'll make a 7 letter word. If you do you'll recieve a triple bonus.

Then I wouldn't be able to use the word 'overnumerousness' in a game of Street Swaps?

        • Bahaha id be up for a game of street swaps

So what score is everyone up to????? haha

Had a set of letters with no vowels, impossible to make a word. I would make it so there is at least 1 vowel in a set.

    • Good suggestion. I hadn't made this change in the past because I felt swapping the letters to get the needed vowel was part of the challenge, however it may be more annoying than challenging. Ill look at making this change.

    Thanks mate

Fun little game. Disabling sound doesn't really disable it though (on my phone at least), you still get a subsecond sound before it cuts out. Also as others have mentioned dragging is clunky.

    Good job otherwise.

    • Thanks for the feedback. Can I ask what phone are you using?

        S4 Mini gt-i9195i running stock android 4.4.4

        • Thank you Ill look at getting this fixed.

@Andweeb: Happy to test/debug if need be. Good luck.

        • @decr: Just reporting back to let you know I've fixed the sound issue. I was actually able to replicate it on my phone (it would only happen once though) but I fixed it. It will be in the next update. Enjoy.

        • +1

@Andweeb: Good job. On mine it's constant and happens every time.

Best of luck with your game :)

        • @decr: Thanks. The update is published. In an hour or so it will appear as an update in Google Play. Please let me know if your issue is fixed.

        • @Andweeb: yep, fixed. Well done.

        • @decr: Yay good to hear

I'm enjoying the game, well done - up to 22.. (Missed the deal but figured i could afford 99c :) )

Just curious as to how the letter selection is done - it doesn't seem to be random as it seems to preference frequently used letters. It can be frustrating when near the end and you desperately need higher scoring consonants and keep getting vowels, but I guess that is part of the game

    • Thanks for your encouragement. Yes there are rare and there are common letters. The rarity of the letters is based on Scrabble letter distribution. It should be the same as if you were pulling random letters out of a bag of Scrabble tiles, you're going to get more vowels then Zs or Qu for example. The only difference is I've turned off getting the same tile twice in a row. But there was a version of swaps where that happened, and it was even more frustrating :-)
