Cheap Canon DSLR 550D@ SS

Are these cheap?
Canon EOS 550D,KISSx4 Kit 18-55mm& 55-200mm DSLR Camera = $1,049.95

and
Canon EOS 550D, KISS x4 Body Digital SLR Camera (kit lens removed though so body only) = $789.95

Not sure why you'd forgo the twin lenses for only an extra $250 though.

Oh, and I'm assuming the 550D is a good camera here too?

  • You're probably better off asking on a camera forum where there's a greater possibility of a knowledgeable person answering your question lol

  • the two kit lenses are usually garbage… if you got some real glass you may not want them

but you can always ebay them

    • The kit lenses are actually very good all things considered.
The are both IS lenses and offer everything the average person will need.

The non IS lenses were not very good but the IS lenses are light years ahead.

  • It looks like a decent deal, when the 550D came out I purchased the body only for around the $1000 mark.

If you do not have any lenses then buy the twin lens kit, the included lenses are good.

For the extra $250 I would get the twin lens kit as to buy some other lenses you will spend more than $250 to buy a single lens.

Call around as camera shops are competitive.

  • I'd think those are grey imports w/o local canon warranty. I bought a 550D recently and got the cheapest price from DCW for arnd $1200 + $75 mastercard deal. Been very happy with it so far =D

  • http://www.dpreview.com great forums and info

  • Looking to purchase a Canon 550D twin lens kit from HN Mentone for $1350 including case and 16g SD card. Good deal or bad deal?

    • Just bought Canon 550D twin lens kit + bag + 2 yrs extended warranty + 16g SD Ultra card from HN for $1160.

      • Can you post a receipt? I'm considering asking my HN for the same deal.

      • Can you please post the receipt????

  • I'm trying to decide what I want. Shopping is hard.

I have a Sony A350. It isn't good with low light. I assume either the 550D or 60D will be a better camera. I don't use my Sony 55-200mm kit lens. I'm not interested in the Canon 55-200mmm because I'd rather start saving for the Canon version of my Sigma 50-500mm.

This is what I'm looking at:

Option 1: Learn the camera and buy a new lens later
    - 550D (Kiss X4) with 18-55mm IS lens: $735.85 shipped

Option 2: Reviews say the non VC version is sharper than the VC.
    - 550D (Kiss X4) body: $670.05 shipped
    - Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 (non VC): $360.04 shipped
    $1030.09
    else
$1095.89 with the Kit 18-55 & Tamron. Kit has IS for video.

Option 3: Faster shutter speed, flip out screen, faster in burst mode, additional settings for creativity
    - 60D (Jap) body: $879.35 shipped
    - Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 (non VC): $360.04 shipped
    $1239.39

Option 4: Wait. The 550D was announced Feb 2010. Some people believe it's replacement will be announced in the next couple of months but others say a new model won't come out that soon because it would compete with the 60D which hasn't been on the market very long.

What did you end up buying?
