Travel umbrella's

Hi all,

I am after the best travel (compact) umbrella you can buy please. Not a sports star/celebrity brand but one with warranty and light/tough.
I've had a few and after going thru 3 in 5weeks that were cheap it's time to try the titanium version.
Recommendations from those that use compact umbrellas please!!!!

  • I haven't ever had one, but the Davek branded umbrellas seem nice and are quite well reviewed. Probably over priced.

Its a bit funny because you end up looking like a dik when walking around but won't flip and you won't get a wet head

I've had no problems with the Korjo Travel Umbrella, blows inside out in windy UK, collapse it and put it back up, no problems. Found it to be pretty strong overall.

    • Agree with this, my Korjo umbrella has been brilliant. Strong and sturdy, also easy to open and close.

  • The umbrellas from mimco are top class, and they fold up real small too.

    • I have a Mimco umbrella and it is terrible. The Mimco printing makes the plastic stick together so each time I want to use it I have to pull each section of the plastic apart separately so it is able to unfold. Aside from that, it is very flimsy.

I didn't pay full price for it, thank goodness. I would have complained about the lack of quality to Mimco had I.

  • Try Harris Scarfe, I bought mine from there, very light and about $13 :)

  • I have a Clifton umbrella:

Never turned inside out, rusting, cover coming off, or had any problems at all. Fits in my smallest handbag. When I bought it in 2009 it claimed that it was the world's smallest or thinnest umbrella and supposedly had a lifetime guarantee.

Definitely very good quality for a tiny umbrella.

    • +1 for Blunt!

      • +2 for blunt, and +2 as well for euroschirm

edit: both are similar price range.

I recommend this site as this is where I got some of my shelta umbrellas (a good mid range brand) from

  • I am extremely disappointed with the Davek traveller. It has now broken in the same spot twice. Once on the original umbrella, and once on the replacement. This is after minimal use, and no abuse. Both times have been while I have been traveling, as this is why I bought the umbrella.

The gauge of the pressed metal spars is too thin. The spring tension wire exerts too much force where it passes through the spar. Consequently the spar bends, then work hardens and breaks.

I would not recommend anyone buy the Davek traveller. the postage payable to replace the umbrella is unsustainable, particularly considering the premium price paid. I hope davek reengineer this product.
