Geronimo Jerky - Recent Experiences and Good Alternatives?

I ordered 1.2kg of jerky from their store about 2 weeks ago. In the past you get an email confirming your order and so on fairly soon, so after a week i tried to call them. Called them multiple times a day for about three days, no response. Sent an email, also no response.

I realize on their website they said there are delays… which I'm okay with, if only they could tell me how long the delays currently are.

Then I got no ozbargain and read the thread for the last geronimo deal and now I'm kind of worried. I'm wondering

  • Has anyone ordered any jerky from them in the last three months? Did you get your jerky? Was it okay?
  • Does anyone have any recommendations for alternative brands? I really liked Geronimo's because it was dry and chewy, has a very good protein/kilojoule ratio, and actually felt like I was eating beef. The last time I randomly bought jerky from woolies (don't remember the brand), the jerky was moist, and it didn't look or feel ilke beef - it was like pinkish red sheets… where as with geronimo's you could always see you were eating bits of real meat.

  • I ordered the last time they had an Ozbargain deal and it all arrived ok.

I have done three orders in total now I think and all have arrived in a reasonable time.

  • Can totally relate to the weird texture of store-bought jerky, last packet of jerky I bought from the local servo turned me off so much I ended up buying a dehydrator to make my own. Excluding the money spent on the dehydrator it costs around $50 to make 1kg of dried jerky, best thing is you can tweak the recipe to your taste.

    • That sounds like a good idea… except I loved their jerky cause I don't have the time or energy to deal with cooking my own meat… :(

  • I thought they were quite expensive. Found a local South African shop that sells great Biltong so using that now.

    • Where is the SA store you now use?

      • In Tingalpa, Brisbane.

  • I put in an order on the 9th of January, and am yet to see any jerky.
I received a confirmation email at the time, but no communication at all since.

    Lodging a paypal dispute tonight.

  • I ended up going with Ripsaw Jerky (https://ripsawjerky.com.au/), as it's been a while since I last had any beef jerky, and Geronimo turned out to be crap in the end (and I'm not a fan of the Biltong styles)

I ordered both mild beef and warm beef; not bad, not as tasty as Geronimo used to be, and it's probably just me, but I think it tastes a bit metallic

Ripsaw are in Queensland and I'm in Perth, ordered last Thursday, arrived Monday, free shipping - can't complain about that! Good communication, was kept up to date both by email and FB messenger. Good service :)
